Llambias insists that Joe will be back at NUFC

NEWCASTLE United managing director Derek Llambias is convinced Joe Kinnear will be back as manager of the club as he vehemently denied a replacement is being sought.

Kinnear is currently at home recuperating from a triple heart bypass operation and it had been feared the 62-year-old would be unable to return.

But Llambias is confident Kinnear will be back in charge of the team before the end of the season, as he underlined the board’s wholehearted support for the former Wimbledon boss.

Although many fans question whether Kinnear has the right credentials to take the club forward in the long term, Llambias is adamant he will remain in charge for as long as his health allows it.

“Joe Kinnear is still Newcastle United manager and he will continue to be going forward,” said Llambias, who dismissed reports linking the Magpies with a move for Wigan’s Geordie boss Steve Bruce.

“We are not looking to replace Joe, we want him to continue as manager because we feel he is the right man for the job. We like him and we trust him, that is very important for us as we look to move forward"

“We have heard people saying we’re after this manager and that manager in the last couple of week, but we want Joe to come back and carry on the job he started."

“It will depend on his health, of course, but unless he has a relapse he will be back in charge. He’s at home recovering well and he is desperate to get back on board again. He’s strong and he’s convinced he will be coming back.”

Although weakened by surgery, Kinnear has already attempted to return to work in some capacity. The Magpies boss has been in regular phone contact with caretaker-manager Chris Hughton, as well as Llambias.

Having advised the coaching staff ahead of the Everton game, Kinnear also continues to discuss potential summer transfer targets with Llambias, who insisted negotiations are “ongoing” in this area.

And Kinnear has been asking for constant updates since he was taken to hospital in Birmingham before United’s 3-1 win at West Bromwich Albion on February 7.

As a result, even Llambias and owner Mike Ashley have had to appeal to United’s absentee manager to take things easy as he recovers from an operation

which, despite being a fairly routine procedure in modern medicine, remains a life-saving one.

Llambias said: “As far as we’re concerned, Joe is recovering from heart surgery and we are trying to force him to take things easy, get well and come back when he is strong enough.

“It’s un uphill struggle at times. He’s been on the phone constantly since he was released from hospital to Chris Hughton and myself.

“We’re having to hold him back if anything and tell him he’s got to concentrate on his recovery, but that’s the passion of the man. He loves the job and it consumes him.

“I know some of the fans have questioned whether he is the right man for the job, but I hope they give him the time to convince them that he is.”

Kinnear expects to be back in charge of first-team affairs before the trip to Stoke City on April 11 and Llambias insisted the board are confident Hughton and first-team coach Colin Calderwood are a safe pair of hands until then.

He added: “Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood are in charge of the team in his absence and we are happy to have them. But when Joe’s well again he will be back in charge.

“He has targeted the Stoke game for his comeback and I wouldn’t be surprised if he tries to come back sooner than that. We have to reign him in a bit, though. We have to sensible and so does he.”

What appointment we make/do not make at the end of the season will be the final straw for a lot of people. The fact that this kind of noise is being made already is certainly worrying.

All I know is that Joe Kinnear is still our manager next season, I'm joining NUSC

They can't say anything else at the moment, but if this is still the case at the end of the season it will be worrying.

Also, I hope they won't be selecting the next manager by the 'we like him' criteria!

what other “criteria” do you expect from a casino manager, they haven’t got a clue about football.

" negotiations are “ongoing” in this area." ... yeah, right... f***ing l-ly-bas(tard).

Yup negotiations were on-going through all of December too, remember the Arsenal and Roma players on loan.  Not much happened that window..

That is why we have Dennis Wise as ED(F).

Is that the reason we have Kinnear now?  Encouraging.

I don't think there are any PR games being played here. He is their man and they will stick with him. Ashley employs people in Sports Direct who are not considered to be up to the job, but he sticks with them because he likes them and trusts them. Such loyalty is  admirable in some ways but retaining JFK as manager will be the biggest obstacle Ashley has got if he is going to get the fans onside. I don't think many people think Kinnear is a credible manager who can move the club forward in the long term, and retaining him just adds fuel to the argument that Ashley is not in it for the long term or is extremely naive (or both).

'We like him' is Llamb-speak for ' he is our Man From Del Monte'- when we ask something, he say Y-E-S..!'

Can't really argue, as you know I'm not anti-Ashley at this stage but if he doesn't bring in a top class manager it will be a major error.

I'd love to believe that this is all just PR from the people in charge and that they have a different, better plan that they intend to implement in the summer and get a quality boss in.

But when have this group ever done anything to warrant such hope?

Fully believe Kinnear is the man for them, match made in heaven tbh.
