Neil
I run Vista; basically next to the shut-down symbol on the Start menu, theres the little exclamation mark showing me theres updates to be installed. If I click on it, I find the next time I start up my laptop, the sound doesnt work ("no audio output device is installed"). Thus, I need to do a system restore. Does anyone know how I can stop this update automatically being installed when I click on 'shut down' via that route? At the moment I'm shutting down my laptop by just turning it off using the main button on it. I guess this isn't too healthy for it in the long run.... Munkey
you can change the settings so that you can manually check for updates. but it does keep the annoying icon letting you know that they're turned off...the same with that fuckin annoying 'user account control ' thing they're introduced...turn it off and it lets you know all the bloody time that it's turned off.
