Ten men have been arrested following the discovery of an "industrial" cannabis farm on Tyneside.

Police found 1,708 cannabis plants, with an estimated potential yield of £275,000 in one unit on Chainbridge Industrial Estate, Blaydon.

A large quantity of electrical equipment including lights and heaters were also found at a unit at the Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead.

Harvested cannabis was also found during a search of a farm at Callerton.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "This was an industrial scale commercial operation to grow a large number of cannabis plants."

Those arrested are aged between 20 and 50, and are from Callerton, Byker, Sunderland and Newbiggin Hall, with four of no fixed address

:yikes:

Can't help thinking that UK-grown cannabis should be the least of our worries when we've got organised criminals and terrorists importing cocaine and other class A drugs using all sorts of despicable means, and using the proceeds to fund their crimes.

Got to stop them both I suppose.

Is the best way not to grow your own on a small scale at home anyway?

Not that I've ever done this, or would recommend it, but it seems to me the best way to get a supply safely.

No not really, its not as easy to do as you may think, I know a few that have tried and ended up with all male plants  also know a kid who lost his council flat because he had a couple of plants gorwing.

I'm surprised anyone tries to grow it here these days. The police helicopter has thermal imagining cameras so the cannabis growing places tend to stand out a mile.

Its a myth, the helicopter does not fly about with its thermal imaging on all the time, also the lights used do not get people caught via the electric bill, most HD lights run of batteries. The heat is an issue but most growers really well insulate the grow room to stop the heat signature anyway.

In a well populated area the main risk is smell its an obviuos one and hard to hide, you need fresh air flow in and an outflow to, filters are used to hiding that smell is hard.

running that sort of HD lighting off batteries?    That's a bloody truck load of AA's isn't it - and if they are lead acid then you still have to recharge them

Times like that I'm glad i live near Nimbin, town where the cops sell it, theres a weed cafe and museum. As well as being able to get your hands on some of the greatest shrooms and green you can find anywhere. I love Nimbin.
