Guest toonlass
An eight-year-old boy has suffered shotgun wounds to his abdomen and arm, police have confirmed. He remains critically ill in South Tyneside District Hospital after he was injured during a shooting at a travellers' site in Gateshead. A 10-year-old boy was arrested following the incident on Friday and has since been released on bail. Supt Jim Napier said: "We believe the answers to this incident lie within the travellers' site." Supt Napier added: "I would like to reassure the public that we do not have someone wandering around with a gun shooting children." He said it was too early to speculate whether the victim and the suspect were related. The young boy underwent surgery on Friday night and remains in a critical but stable condition. West Pastures is a small permanent travellers' site to the south of Gateshead. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surely a "permanent" traveller's site is a contradiction in terms? Coco
Is 'traveller' not just used as an ethnic term now?
Pilko
I think it means permanent as in it's always there for different travellers to come and go, not for travellers to stay there permanently. Shocking story btw.
madras
the site may be permanent but not the residents.
Guest toonlass
Ah not nice, but why is a 10 year old allowed access to a gun? Is "traveller" an ethnicity or a lifestyle choice?
Pilko
Ah not nice, but why is a 10 year old allowed access to a gun? Is "traveller" an ethnicity or a lifestyle choice? 1) not a clue 2) might just be a PC way of saying "gypsies"

Dunno, but you always see it on forms where you need to state you ethnicity, i.e. caucasian / afro-carribean / asian / 'traveller' The world has gone PC mad...
