Guest toonlass
Anyone had it? Know what its like? I had my tonsils out when I was four, but my 10 year old has it and she is in agony. We went to the docs yesterday and he gave her anti-biotics, but I am having trouble even getting water into her as it hurts so much. Have her dosed up on calpol and junior ibruprofen but she is still not well. Was up all night with her, obviously not working today and we are both shattered. How long does an episode last? Why do they not take tonsils out anymore?

Better to check with the doctors of course. I normally suck on Tyrozets when I get it to relieve the pain and inflammation. You might want to try that so she is able to eat and drink and feel better. Thanks, they think its bacterial. She has managed a yogurt and some milk today, and seems in a bit less pain. Fever has gone more or less too. Still not great but definitely signs of improvement since the weekend.
Haz
Its not a consideration whether its viral or Baterial. Ice cream or ice will dull the pain a little.

True, but is it not more effective on a bacterial culture as it would destroy the optimum temperature conditions? or summat?
simmsy10
I usually gargle with soluable pain killers to try to 'clean' them! Then usually liquid penicillin helps me clear it up! My last bout lasted 2 weeks tho, cleared up nicely for christmas eve tho!
Skeletor
2 days on the anti-biotics and the pain will start to subside. In the mean time you can get her one of those sprays that numbs the throat to get her through until then.
