Big Geordie
Quick question - anyone know if this can be passed on easily? I ask because the step-grandson (who is nearly 2) has just been diagnosed with it. I'm due to head down to the step-daughters to watch the match tonight - but kind of got 2nd thoughts. My little'un is nearly 5 months old and I don't want to risk passing it on to her. Any advice from those in the know?
Dave
Pretty infectious IIRC, aye.
NJS
Had it a couple of times in the past 2 or 3 years - Doctor told me its one the most infectious things around. Optrex sore eyes ointment is the business if you can persuade a chemist to sell it to you - much better than the drops.
Big Geordie
Bugger. I'll probs be best off staying away then. I'll look into seeing if I can order the match at home (as a one-off) - or make do with Radio Newcastle.
Guest toonlass
Only contagious through contact. Don't use any towels he has use, make sure if he rubs his eyes he washes his hands before you touch him. Wash your hands before you touch your bairn, you should be ok. Guest toonlass
I had a severe case of conjunctivitis when I was 15, was off school for over 6 weeks, and backwards and forwards to the eye department at the RVI. Had to wear dark glasses and couldn't read, watch tv or anything. Majority of times conjunctivitis is pretty simple to treat, and as long as you don't share towels, flannels etc and make sure you wash your hands it clears up pretty quickly. Occassionally you get it like mine, when you have to go to the eye hospital and have treatment there. My eyes hurt like fuck and I had to put drops in, and this thick yellow cream and I still felt like a road gritter had driven through them. My littlest bairn had it a few months ago and the doctor said to use cool, boiled water to clean her eyes with a cotton wool ball and it cleared up pretty quickly.
