Adam
Company of heroes is way better than Dawn of War, really deep RTS, probably one of the most balanced games around as well.
Clay
Played them both this morning, i'm preferring COH, although dawn of war isn't bad, seems pretty good for free. Only done the first mission of the campaign on COH, the normandy beach level Looks and plays awesome.
Adam
Best bit of coh is online. Take your time though, as if you play online now you will get raped ! www.gamereplays.com have a look on there, some very useful tactics and build orders.

Ridman
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/introduction-developer-king-arthur/54024 Can't fucking wait for this one, looks like a mix of Heroes of Might and Magic and Medieval total war. For a mass-scale RTS the graphics are really nice, especially the environment.
Clay
Finally got around to building a new PC from scratch after I made the mistake of wasting my money on the bundle last year (which constantly BSOD) I'm a graphics card away from being able to run anything, however the onboard graphics I have at the moment is able to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R on high graphics settings to give you an idea of what I can play. Looking to spend £10 on steam for a decent game but unsure what to buy Thinking of either: Star Wars KOTOR - £6.99 Rome Total War gold - £4.99 Any suggestions? Is there something else on Steam under a tenner I should be getting before those?
Dr.Spaceman
What did you build, out of curiosity. I'm upgrading after 2 and a bit years in about a month. I was looking at an OC bundle with the i5 which is priced at just under £500, and then getting a 4850 for about £220. That should be my student loan gone quite nicely. As for them two games, I'm not a fan of Total War, and I've heard decent things about KOTOR.
Clay
Bought the following over the past few months Corsair 650w TX PSU - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135514 WD 500gb HDD - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124228 Casecom case - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172779 Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176157 Asus M4A785TD-V EVO mobo - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169532 AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166518 4gb Crucial memory - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166995 All for £400 including a couple of case fans I bought locally, probably could have got it a bit cheaper if I shopped around but I like ebuyer, skimmed costs on a couple of things like the case which is suprisingly awesome considering how cheap it was and only getting a 500gb HDD but overall very happy with it considering the budget, lightening fast and exactly what I need to last me a few years. The processor can be unlocked to 4 cores and overclocked aswell but I can't be arsed. Just need a graphics card now, still undecided on what to get but I'm leaning towards the HD 5770 and then dual booting 2 of them with crossfire in the future if I need to but may stretch for a better card when the time comes. EDIT: Looking at those links the price of the memory has shot up Pleased I got it when I did for £75.
Dr.Spaceman
I'm getting a 5850 and clocking it up to a 5870. Apparently the 5870's aren't as good value for money as the 50's. That seems about right for £400 tbh. GGWP.
tmonkey
IMO the 5770 is probably the best bang for buck on the market atm. DX 11, good performance, low energy consumption, low temperatures, low noise. Nvidia will be releasing a new lineup of cards next week, not sure if it's worth waiting to see whether that has any impact on prices for current cards (it's normally months before any prices get slashed). http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-graphics-card,review-31829.html is a decent summary of the best value cards available within the various price ranges. Dr.Spaceman
Toms hardware should be the first place to go if you are building a new gaming rig tbh.
Adam
If nvida can produce a card that is anywhere near the current ati line up I will be amazed, 5770 is a decent card but if you are playing on higher res, stumping up the extra for a 5850 is well worth it imo. CPU wise the phenoms are decent but new i5s seem to be the sweet spot for mental speed at a good price, just a shame the the price of RAM has gone through the roof. Saying that I'm still sitting pretty with my q6600 and 4850
Clay
No way I'm paying £250 for a card The 5770 will do me, apparently it can run anything well enough anyway and it's not as if graphics are improving drastically all the time like they used to, was reading that Crysis is still the benchmark game for cards and it's 3 years old?
Dr.Spaceman
Thing is, a £250 graphics card will easily last you 3 years, pay £100 and expect to need an upgrade within a year and a half.
hakka
Is everyone going Directx11 mad now? think there's about 6 games out that can use it and another 6 saying they will use it later this year.
Dr.Spaceman
Not at all. I don't care for graphics really, my X1950 just isn't up to scratch anymore.
Adam
There are a few niffty things in DX11, but only a few games really use them. In the next few years I think we will see quite a few games being DX10 and not even supporting 9 (Battlefield 3 is rumoured to be like this), then you will see the extras not just fancier shadows. Chrissy Bee
The graphics card market is pretty stagnant right now. It's barely moved on in the past year, been looking at getting a new card but you don't see the same kind of jumps we did a few years back.
hakka
leaving the DX11 stuff aside, I love my GTX275. Had it just under a year and it still runs everything on max perfectly.

Well the new Ati 5XXX cards, pretty much shit all over Nvidia, you'd have to be mad to buy an Nvidia card now unless you like spending more money for less product. Would like Nvidia to make something decent to push atis prices down a bit, I'm not holding my breath though.

Well yes, but the lack of competition from Nvidia is the issue - you don't get much more for your £100 today then you did 12 months ago.
Clay
Looking for a good sim game, something along the lines of Sims 3, Rollercoaster tycoon 3, Settlers etc..... Is Caesar 3 still worth getting?
