GG
At which point is a place in the north of the country? Or the south, for you guys? For me, anything north of St Albans is north. What for you constitutes 'the south'?

pedro111
That map is spot on, at least for the Northern England part. South Yorkshire is definately where the North of England begins or ends depending on from which way you are coming. PS - I like how Tyne & Wear is so unimportant according to that map that it doesnt warrant being named.

pedro111
For me anything south of Cumbria, Durham etc is South. While this is technically true, I hate it when people say it!!! Imo it is all to do with the 'feel' of a place. I have been to Manchester, Leeds Sheffield, Liverpool, Hull etc etc and yes they are different to Newcastle but the one thing that binds these cities is this unmistakeable 'Northern feel'. I cant really describe what the 'Northern feel' is but I know that it is present in said cities. Once you get down past Sheffield into places like Derby, Leicester Birmingham and Nottingham etc etc, this 'Northern feel' I speak of is simply not there and is thus the 'Midlands feel'.
