Newcastle are considering a move for Valencia defender David Navarro, according to the player's agent.

The Magpies were linked with the 26-year-old last summer but are now set to renew their interest.

Reports in the Spanish press indicate that Navarro could be heading to The Premiership in January for a fee of around €5 million (£3.3 million)

Agent Maria Orobigt said: "Newcastle are searching for a central defender and have several men on their list.

"But still there are several aspects to be considered and I personally view it as a very complicated exit."

Navarro has not been a regular in Valencia's starting XI this season but is still attracting attention from across the continent.

Deportivo La Coruna have questioned Valencia about his availability and are rumoured to be very keen on signing him.

Guest Village Idiot

My friends from Valencia were laughing their socks off when this rumour surfaced.

He's not totally crap, but undistinctly average.

Navarro has never been a regular in the Valencia starting XI. He's a squad player, and not a particularly good one.

If Fat Bastard and Glenn the Goose knew these top defenders, WHY THE F**K DIDN'T THEY SIGN THEM AUGUST ????

They both must go, we must keep up the pressure an incompetent ,manager who wouldn't get a job in the championship and a chairman who keeps making the worst possible appointments ????????? blueupset.gif blueupset.gif blueupset.gif blueupset.gif

Loan first, with option to buy.

Lets not buy out right another Spanish player, nevermind a central defender!

This guy sounds average at best anyway, prefer the cheaper & more reliable option in Distin.

he's not great. There is a reason he's only played 50 games for Valencia in 5 and a half seasons. He's just a squad player.

Im not being funny but why do you keep on going on about Cannavaro like we ever had a chance of signing him?

Thierry Henry is great but I wouldn't keep going on about how we could use his services if we signed a different striker!

Just been on Revista de la Liga (sky sports) with Guillem Balague about this, here's what he said...

- There is a 5 million Euros offer on the table from Newcastle for Navarro right now (£3.5m-ish).

- While Valencia have injuries he may get more game time, so that might keep him there.

- The money being offered to him by NUFC far, far outstrips what he's getting at Valencia and he would "jump" at the move from a purely financial perspective.

- However, there are players dissuading Navarro from moving here and he himself "knows little" about the Toon, people are telling him Newcastle is a very difficult place to play and would be a bad move. (Luque?)

Basically, if Balague is correct then it looks like another instance where the player only comes for the pay if indeed he does come at all. I know nothing much about him myself, but there's not much shame in being a squad player in a team as good as Valencia. Bit of a gamble though, surely?

I seem to remember Benitez trying to sign him for Liverpool the summer before the one just gone, he must of seen something in him from working with him every day to think he can be a success in the Premiership.

You should know better than to question the wisdom of Ridzuan.
