Anthnufc
This is driving me mad as i have thought of a great idea/invention but dont know if I need to or not patent my invention. I have been on this website but fail to understand where it stands with my idea, as the invention already exists but is not used for this reason, for example (ignore the fact that this example is nonsense!! as i cant think of a better example) you take a wooden door and use the wooden door as a surfboard, the wooden door works better as a surfboard in everyway (again ignore the fact that this is b******s) . If I was to sell this what would i need to do to make sure that no-one steals this idea?

Robster
Chances are if this item actually exists, then someone somewhere would have the same idea of using it in your same alternate way.

Adam
What would stop people using your invention in the way it is already being use for ?
Beren
Actually, you can. Under the Patent Act s4A(3) you can use an old thing in an old way for a new purpose. They're called novelty-of-purpose patents. Good luck.
