Those mobiles from China/Hong Kong on ebay

Been looking at getting a cheap dual-SIM mobile so I can have my UK and Italian numbers up and running at the same time. There are plenty of cheap mobiles on ebay but mostly from Hong Kong. They're quite obviously fairly poor quality but so long as they do the basics that's all I need.

Now, most of these sellers have lots of feedback. One had 1000's in the last month and only 25 were negative. However, the negatives were VERY negative and basically describe the items as a total scam since they don't work in the UK (other UK users seemed to have no problem).

Does anyone have any experience buying this sort of thing from Hong Kong? Are those 25 people just unlucky? Are those 1000's of positive feedback all done by the seller's mates?

Why didn't you just buy a proper phone with £40?

Edit - just noticed the SIM thing. Can't you get a dual-sim adapter any more? I used to have one years ago.

You can and they only cost a few quid.

BUT... from what I've read you still need to keep switching between the SIMs whereas this one I've bought is a "dual SIM standby" which means they're both active all the time.

Don't really know until I have a play around with it. From what I've seen it works  like any other two line phone you might have in an office. The important part is that I'm always able to pick up calls. Seems to do what I want.

Arrived.

Looks cheap but does what it's supposed to.

There's a minor problem to do with the phone's IMEI code and having 2 SIM cards (second SIM appears as "Invalid" and wont work) but there are fixes for this (although, technically illegal in the UK).

Either way, doesn't affect me as I have an Orange SIM and Orange don't check the IMEI code of a phone and so mine works beautifully with 2 SIMs.

Could be an issue to people on other networks trying this.

Either way, it's a UK networks thing rather than a phone fault.
