Andy
The image from the hubble is probably the most humbling thing I have ever seen -- 10,000 galaxies, many of which are much bigger than our own, in such a relatively tiny area of space. The sentence: "the image depicts a time when the universe was only 800 million years old" puts the scale of things into an incredible perspective. Guest LucaAltieri
Got a video version of that in here: http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,58193.0.html It is difficult to even imagine how small we are.
Kasper
It's depressing thinking we wont find out anything at all about all these galaxies during my time here. Can't we just invent hyperdrive ffs
TêteDeMaure
How do they know all of this shit. How do they know there are trillions, surely they couldnt have counted every single one.

Jayson
There's sentient life out there somewhere. Really makes you think so when you see it like that doesnt it. Amazing stuff. There is that theory that we're already surrounded by endless lifeforms but our brains arent wired to see or comprehend them in anyway that i always found interesting. Like people who are colour blind. Imagine if the entire planet were colour blind... So there may be things that our brains arent even wired to see, that we're completely unaware of. There a massive assumption that if something existed we'd be able to comprehend it in someway. Which isnt necessarily true. All starts getting a bit ridiculously hard to comprehend when you think of it like that.

All starts getting a bit ridiculously hard to comprehend when you think of it like that. Sort of like Solaris, they were at least able to see the planet and comprehend some of the actions it took, but it's mental capacities and frames of reference were so different (or far beyond) from anything humans would be able to understand. Apparently Lem liked to write about those sorts of things, the idea that alien life forms might just be so radically different from ours that it was futile to try and interact with them. Northerngimp
Yep, its amazing just looking at it. I was watching "Universe" this morning. Just think that we may be the only life kicking about in this part of the galaxy and the universe is that big that we may never bump into any other life forms, all we do is kill each other while polluting the planet we live on. Well done humans. Natures biggest mistake.
