Match logistical troubles......

Recommended Posts

after reading about some things  some of our fans have to do to get to the match, lets hear about your difficuilties in making matches.

i've worked a few night shifts and went straight to the central station for 6am for  away games.

i once got a call off a friend living in dublin, man utd season ticket holder at the time "how long does it take to get to manchester by road from teeside airport"....their flight had been diverted from manchester due to fog so 4 of them were taxi-ing, they got there 10mins after kick off.

i heard of 2 geordies who when working in glasgow drove as far south as needed to get metro radios commentary of the grimsby promotion game then found the nearest pub to listen to it in,sleeping off the nights excess in the car before driving back to glasgow for a days plastering.

Oslo city to airport, then Oslo airport to London, wait 4 hours at heathrow for the flight up to Newcastle

Think it is 8-10 hours effective to get from Oslo city to Newcastle city from my home, and the price it has mind  :undecided:

Wish it was a bit more easy to get to the games really, then i would go to more games.

The airplane tickets go from £300-£600, then its hotel/hostel, food, beer, its an easy £1000 for a weekend with shopping etc included

two airlines do newcastle to stavanger, would it not be easier to go from oslo to there and then direct into newcastle airport? anything to avoid london

just what i was thinking....after checking that there was no oslo flight (surprised at that). that stavanger service is a regular aswell. used to go to bergen aswell i think.

not that amzing. the local law just you off their patch. our coach even had an escort, front and rear to to the nottinghamshire conty border i'm told.

edit...that liverpool game we got ambushed up a side street and they were hoying allsorts at us and they knew there were plenty of women and kids in there....the start of my hatred of scousers. i got a bit revenge that night. (then was brought right down to earth a few weeks later)

being in the TA i'm expected to work 3 weekends a month which causes problems, obviously. To make the last 4 saturday games i've basically had to agree to do a tour of Canada in the summer and Afghanistan next year, which demonstrates my affection somewhat

Norwegian from Oslo to Edinburgh you can get for as low as £60 round trip, usually it's more like £100-£120 there and back, but still cheaper than £300-£600. Then the bus fare from Edinburgh to Newcastle is surprisingly cheap, around the £6 mark, making it £72 there and back in plane/bus money.

British Airways (I belive that's what you usually take) rapes your wallet.

the train from newcastle to edinburgh is also pretty cheap, especially if you book in advance. far quicker than travelling from london, less stressful, a beautiful relaxing coastal route. airport bus drops you right outside waverly station too  :pow:

I've done both and down the line, Norwegian route tends to end up being the cheapest option. The best is a combination of Norwegian from Oslo to Edinburgh, and a Glasgow return to Oslo with Ryanair, though.

I miss the Ryanair Oslo - Newcastle direct flights :(

10-12 hours of train from Östersund to Göteborg, then a 24 hour boatride to Newcastle, stayed for 4 days watching the Newcastle-Sunderland (3-2) derby then the same route home :) (Will never ever go to Newcastle by boat again, was awful)

we have a leader if this is a race.

Nothing glamorous, just the $500 minimum it takes to cross the Atlantic. Worst was when I paid $1100 to get a ticket to see us get thrashed 3-0 at home to Liverpool under Allardyce.

Once i head back home (South Korea) that $500 minimum is going to become a $1000 minimum :( 14 hour flight too

Bus to Belfast (50miles)/Dublin (70 miles) airport, flight to Newcastle, metro to Monument or Haymarket then walk to the Stadium, watch game and repeat opposite of journey back home in time to go out on the rip over here. Can be quite tight doing that, at least it used to be, last 2 or 3 times I was over I stayed the weekend so having done this trip in about 2 years. I remember leaving SJP one time with about 45 minutes before check in closed, slightly nerve wrecking.

i have looked over lots of choices for my travels, and the oslo-london-newcastle has always been the most suited timewise.

Going through Scotland is like going to bangkok and travel oslo-brazil-france-bangkok just because its 10% cheaper  :idiot2:

Wich pretty much sums up everything, i rather pay more for a more suitable travel for ME....

1 hour and 40 mins with bus/train compared to waiting 4 hours in London. Oh yeah, very bad timewise
