Crumpy Gunt
Got a SMEG dual fuel. The electric oven is struggling to build up heat. The temp wont go higher than about 120. I can hear the fan working but had it up full blast tonight for about 1hr and it got nowhere near full heat. Anyone know anyone into fixing this sort of thing? madras
haven't got a clue but my guess is a thermostat problem. (my stock answer when anything goes wrong with cookers, fridges, kids, boilers ,cars)
midds
Sounds like the element is (nearly) fucked. I think a new one cost me about 50 notes a few years back.

Crumpy Gunt
Sounds like the element is (nearly) fucked. I think a new one cost me about 50 notes a few years back. Found this and it seems very likely its the fault. I'll check the back plate tomorrow. http://www.ransomspares.co.uk/articles/replacing-faulty-oven-fan.htm?gclid=CMnOusf8y5oCFR4hnAodFFDl3g I remember last week wor lass used the conventional oven without the fan and the kitchen got filled up with smoke. Probably burned it out then. I'm shite at DIY anarl. Bastard.

Rich
Just phoned my old man for you Crumpy and he reckons it is an element issue, but that it's been caused by the wrong setting being used when the cooking's been done rather than by anything being broken. He sees it all the time, although people always lie to his face and say they've always done it like he shows them Reckons there's 2 elements in that model, top and bottom, and that the setting you've been using is only utilising the top one, which doesn't have enough power to get past 120. Before I even read your second post he said "I bet it's been smoking like hell without the fan on". He just said to tell you to read the book if you have it and alter the setting you use, never mentioned anything about it needing fixed/replaced, so hopefully shouldn't cost you anything. He was in a rush like, so wasn't the most sage domestic appliance advice he's ever given. Definitely knows his stuff though, been doing it forever. Rich
I think the one he said you need to use is the one that shows the fan with both the top and bottom elements on the little picture. Apologies about the scatter-gun nature of all that, was typing it up as he was telling me and he was in the middle of something. Definitely didn't mention anything about you needing to replace it or get anyone out though.
