TêteDeMaure
I've had my laptop for well over a year, and it's had vista on it. I bought it, genuine copy. When my Laptop knacked i had to reinstall it. Started up, put the product key in works fine. Then few month ago after a log in, it asked me to activate windows, so i did, and it was fine. Turned it on this morning and it's asking me to do it again,i'm trying to, but it's not letting me saying i'm not connected to the internet, even though i am as it's let me use it in a limited capacity and redirected me to the Microsoft website. It won't let me activate it!!!!! aRGH.
Guest Lazlo
I would assume you bought the oem version and not retail ? These problems seem to only surface with oem. You say you laptop knacked ? If hardware components have been changed this is why it's being funny with activation. Ms takes a snapshot of your hardware when you activate vista for the first time, if this changes too much you may have problems, this is only a problem with oem versions. If this sounds like the case you need to phone ms and ask them if you can enable your vista via your product key, explaining to them the change in your hardware, Or download an activation hack. Something has changed in order for it to do this.

TêteDeMaure
Windows tells me to download update such and such to stop the problem. But when itry to download the update, it tells me i might be the victim of piracy, so i can't download the bloody update!!!!!!!! For christs sake. TêteDeMaure
I'm still accessing my laptop with reduced functionality. I tried to validate, it tells me to activate, i can't activate because it won't let me, says product key is invalid, which it is not. I can't download update because it won't let me. I can't do a bloody thing. I've payed loads of money to have this, and it's fucking gash. THe license key is on the laptop itself so how the fuck can it be invalid! arghhhhhh. To resolve this problem if it has already occurred To resolve this problem if it has already occurred, use one of the following methods: * If you have been prompted to activate Windows Vista, and you have not used the product key to manually activate Windows Vista, install update 931573, and then restart the computer. * If you have been prompted to activate Windows Vista, and you have used the product key to manually activate Windows Vista, install update 931573, and then activate Windows Vista by telephone. Would be fantastic if it would let me do any of these options.
Guest Lazlo
there's an article on it here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-vista-support/241911-hotfix-931573-a.html you're probably going to have to phone them though, unless you can get the update installed via safe mode
