Liberty City is about to get a little more fabulous -- Rockstar Games has announced The Ballad of Gay Tony, the second episode for Grand Theft Auto 4.

"Liberty City is the most vibrant game world we've created yet. The episodic structure has allowed us to interweave stories, gameplay and atmosphere in a whole new way," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser.

"The team at Rockstar North have yet again surpassed themselves, and made something that is both epic and very innovative. This episode's focus on high-end night life contrasts with the biker gangs portrayed in The Lost and Damned, whilst giving us a lot of new gameplay possibilities."

The Ballad of Gay Tony stars Luis Lopez, a "part-time hoodlum" and "full-time assistant to legendary nightclub impresario Tony Prince," better known as "Gay Tony." As usual, he'll have to juggle competing loyalties while also trying to determine who is "real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price."

The latest GTA4 episode will be available on the Xbox 360 this fall for 1600 Microsoft Points ($19.99). In addition, the episode will be available on retail disc titled Episodes from Liberty City, which will also include the first episode Lost and Damned. Episodes from Liberty City will retail for $39.99, and will not require the original game to play.

Haha, it's not even April Fools day.

Microsoft just paid a lot of money for them i think, something like $50 million dollars or something, think that was the figure thrown about at the time anyway.

Yeah, that's right.

This sounds awesome like, haven't really gotten into L&D, definitely getting this though.

I was reading a news article a while back trying to claim that GTA is 'done' and that people are no longer interested. The whole arguement was based around sales of Chinatown Wars on the DS and 360 DLC. Personally I thought it was a rather strange dataset to base any observations of GTA as a whole on. My thoughts would be that a high percentage of players will look at Chinatown Wars, weigh it up alongside what is obviously a more impressive looking GTA4 and decide not to bother.

Similarly I think there is still a cautious attitude from many people towards DLC, where it is claimed that Microsoft have forked out a fortune on exclusive content that may not provide them with the expected return. While X-Box Live is really pushing forward the ideas of online gaming and getting more from games via additional content, I still think that the episodic manner of continuing a game is yet to really flourish. I'm not sure whether it's the lack of exposure, the thought of having to download big files or the massive number of small but ultimately rather pointless additions to other games that turn people off the whole DLC thing. Hopefully thought GTA as well as Fallout can show that there is a strong market for quality DLC.

Here's hoping this one is as good as L&D.

O'Neill, as soon as the next GTA is announced (may be sooner rather than later as I thought they might have been saving this annoucement for E3) the gaming world will go mental for GTA again as long as it expands on what they've already built.

Chinatown Wars was an excellent little game for the DS, very pretty and fairly in depth with some of the missing factors from GTA IV put back in, like buying safehouses, and new extras like the drug dealing aspects.

"GTA V" might be PS3 exclusive simply because it won't fit on a 360 disc according to Rockstar exec Ron Houser.

Not in a million years.

GTA and Fallout doing episodic content the right way.

Did the fallout DLC also contain lots of full-frontal male nudity?

Only thing it was missing, tbh :hom:

"Rockstar: GTA V Could Be Too Large for Xbox 360"

"One of the problems with the 360, and it affects games like Grand Theft Auto if you think about how much content we put in the actual machine, is the fact that they don't have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems."

"The 360 is going to have to get 'round this issue we're talking about, because it's going to become an issue."

Probably will still be out for 360, but I'd say "not in a million years" is far from true. They had severe troubles fitting GTA IV onto a 360 disc, GTA V will be bigger and better, I reckon they may go with two discs and have people change them for people without hdd's, and have one for people to import onto their hdd's if they have one to avoid having to change discs.

Too much money at stake, imo. People aren't going to run out and buy a PS3 just to play one game. They'll have to figure a way to get it done.

Installation is the way forward, I think. No one wants to have to swap discs to play a sandbox game.

The problem is that not everybody have hdd's for their 360's due to being stupid enough to not just squirting out £20-ish more to get something better than the Arcade version. And thus can't install it on their 360's, which means swapping discs may be the only way for these 360 owners unless they go out and buy a hdd.

Could be a good idea selling both the game and a small hdd in a bundle as well as just the game.

Reckon it'll be quite a while before we see a GTA V, would be very surprised if the Xbox doesn't have blu ray capabilities by then. If it doesn't, the storage problem would be solved by installation and/or DLC. There's no way Microsoft will watch the Xbox lose big game after big game because of the DVD restrictions.

As I said, DLC and installation won't work for everybody;

"The fact that they don't have a significantly larger storage medium than the previous systems. It's a slightly bigger DVD disc," Houser told 1up.

Then take into account that not all Xbox 360s come with a hard drive. It's here that things get super sticky."

Like I said, MS wouldn't just sit back and watch them lose big game after big game. Can see them doing one of three things; either release a new console which would be backwards compatible with the 360, while still supporting the 360, release a stand alone blu ray player for the 360 and release games as "blu ray only", or put a "requires X amount of HDD space".
