davy_fulla
I'm looking for some advice on the best and cheapest way to go about getting CCNA certification. If anyone has done it or is working towards it what would be your advice? Looking around the internet a lot of sites suggest going for the CompTIA A+ certification first as an entry point. Is this a good idea or are they just trying to get extra money from people by getting them to do this first. I'm really looking at getting a job in IT as my curent job is doing my head in. Cheers! AfroP
what kind of IT experience do you have? If you have none at all(apart from self taught machine building and general usage skills) then I would agree that you should do an entry lvl something. Maybe even an MCP in vista or XP on Cisco's own site they recomend the CCNA for what they consider associate level which is effectively intermediate. Not a good starting point, or at least not an easy starting point http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/learning_career_certifications_and_learning_paths_home.html The comptia N+ cert(the networking certification) would be a good place to start as it should introduce you to the terminology used etc http://certification.comptia.org/network/
davy_fulla
Cheers AfroP. I've been looking around the internet all day and the information is so confusing. I've been on the phone to Computeach and although their A+ course sounds good (plenty of practical classroom training) it costs around £1600. I've decided to buy myself a couple of books and training videos off ebay for the princely sum of £20 just to get a taste for things. If I get to grips with these I'll go for a proper training course before taking the exam. I'm hoping to pick things up quickly. I was always well into PCs and all things technical when I was at school and was always the geek that people asked things in class. This was just before the internet really took off and I'm regretting not keeping up with things. Are you CCNA qualified mate?
AfroP
Not qualified at all atm mate been in the IT game for many years though, went through a MCSE NT4 course(no exams) and have just done the MCDST course and have yet to do my exams. I've looked into the CCNA before though.
Guest MrShens
I'm CCNA 1-4 certified. I would recommend Newcastle College, very good tuition there.
