Guest Geordiesned
We're off there this weekend on our annual end of season piss up. Thing is, one of the lads was there a few weeks ago on a stag do and said that a lot of the pubs they tried refused entry to any groups of lads of 3 or more. So wondering if anyone can recommend a good area to go out where we should be able to get in. There's 11 of us going.
Karjala
Split into two's before u go in.

GM
I had this problem in Edinburgh. Must be a Scottish thing. RACIST!!! http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3259/thatsracistdn1.gif Except, aye...it is a Scottish thing. Best bet is to find some hen party and tag along with them. Don't know much about the Glasgow nightlife scene - there's the city centre/Sauchiehall Street and all that and there's the Byers Road/West End which I suppose I'd recommend but to be fair ScottishMag, GlasgowMag or BlufPurdi would be better bets for advice on this. Merchant City is canny good though. Depends what sort of vibe you're after. Try http://www.list.co.uk/
pedro111
Here's a tip from my experience. You will inevitably get talking to various locals about football. When you tell them you are from Newcastle they will spend a good 5 minutes telling you as if you didnt know already where the club has gone wrong. *Then*, here is the key moment. YOU need to ask them first who they support..........Celtic or Rangers. You can then control the conversation and avoid a possible Glasgow kiss. And the answer at that point is to say that Mike Ashley has applied for Newcastle to join the SPL because he wants to win more than 7 ganes per season and he see the Old Firm as easy points. cubaricho
What could be the possible logic behind not letting groups of three or more dudes into a bar?
Gash
I had this problem in Glasgow, nothing we could do about it. Walkabout/Revs let us in but the independant bigger bars wouldnt. Was very disapointing.
GM
What could be the possible logic behind not letting groups of three or more dudes into a bar? I think it's got something to do with bouncers being absolute cretins who think filling a bar full of men who are going to drink vast quantities of alcohol may actually result in some sort of violence. They're basically lazy bastards, bouncers.
Gash
To be fair to them groups of lads that size could turn from fights into riots. Shame for the vast majority of us who arent pricks!

You were in the wrong part of town, you needed to be at Bennetts. Here's a list for you next time you go to Glasgow, Gash: http://pinkplaces.net/ukglasgowgay.html#Pubs_&_Clubs
Gash
We were only in a group of 4 aswell btw
BlueStar
So who do they let in then? Who goes clubbing with just one mate?
Gash
I think it may have been because it was me and 3 asians, stereotyping zomg.
GM
Asians have had a bad press in Glasgow lately. Something to do with mistaking Glasgow Airport for a McDonalds Drive Thru a couple years ago...
CaliMag
Sassanachs have a bad rep as well and is probably the reason they wouldn't let you in.
colinmk
Aye man, split into pairs preferably, if your really pished and there's 3 of you they might not let you in. Start out maybe in the west end then head into the centre for sauchiehall st. I recommend firewater for good craic in general and maybe the ABC for birds and half decent music or the Arches for proper technoish stuff and birds. There's always a good night to be had in Glasgow so plan it before you go as there's a lot of shite bars/clubs about.

Firewater is always a great recommendation, but I, personally, can't stand it anymore.
Greg
In Glasgow Monday night as I'm at a conference at SECC on Tuesday, hotel is fairly central. Any advice on decent bars and restaurants from any locals please?
BlufPurdi
Nothing majorly stands out in the centre of town. Stick to Sauchiehall Street.
Belfast Mags
To be fair to them groups of lads that size could turn from fights into riots. Shame for the vast majority of us who arent pricks! This is the reason. If a group of ten or fifteen lads are in a bar and something kicks off, it could quickly turn into riot central, that's the reason for it happening here (which it still does) Just split up into smaller groups or tag along with some random bitches
TaylorJ_01
Missed this. Would have suggested the west end, you're closer to it than Sauchiehall Street. There's nothing around the SECC really. Just trek to Ashton Lane/Byres road and there's some quality pubs. Nevertheless, this is pointless.
