toonpete1892
After cleaning up my laptop I thought I'd do the same on my desktop. I've deleted all of the Internet history, cookies etc and emptied the Recycle bin. Currently running the Disk Cleanup and aim to Disk defrag and Error Check once done. This probably hasn't been done for 2+ years so theres a lot to do. However, I've had Disk Cleanup running for almost 2 hours and its still not a third along the progression bar. My computer is working hard (or at least sounding like it) but has it stopped or just working extremely slowly? How long should this take if its not been done for a year or two? Cheers in advance
Guest Lazlo
Sometimes disk cleanup can try to delete files that are in use or not allowed for deletion. If your drive is heavily fragmented disk cleanup can hang because of this as well. Ccleaner if you use it will delete any temp internet files that may be corrupt. Just using Ccleaner then defragging will probably give just the same result.
ToonTastic
Also if you can run the defrager in Dos or safe mode you'll get a quicker result.
Joey
I'd suggest downloading CCleaner. It'll do the job a lot better and quicker. It can also remove old unused registry entries which can help, although i'd not do this part of it as it couldn't (however unlikely) be a pain to fix if all goes wrong.
