ChezGiven
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/article6405863.ece Everyone with an interest in electronic music should have a read. Think i must have been on E every weekend between 1990 and 1995.

Bowie
"It's very easy to pop an E and dance all night to thudding repetitive beats. What does it accomplish? Nothing. 'Rave culture', a horrendous term itself, marks nothing other than selfish, hedonistic idiocy of the majority of today's youth. Just 21, I find myself hoping that prohibition will reappear S.A.B., Newcastle, UK" This person sounds like a barrell of laughs like. Brilliant article though. davy_fulla
Good read that, cheers Look forward to that documentary that bloke's supposd to be releasing later in the year. Dunno if you saw 'The Summer of 1989' on the telly a few years ago but that was a good watch. I've still got it on my Sky+ to this day. It just makes me so jealous that I wasn't old enough to be there.

LucaAltieri
Rave helped bring the glow stick to a mass audience. That's enough to justify its existence.
Keefaz
Rave helped bring the glow stick to a mass audience. That's enough to justify its existence. And revitalising the whistle.

Keefaz
Tbh, rave is to music what Blue Nun is to wine.
Interpolic
I'd argue that rave was to music what George Foremans were to grills. A kick up the arse, and a welcome one at that. Also completely influenced more orthodox types of music.

Also completely influenced more orthodox types of music. I agree, up to a point, but a lot was very formulaic and made with the pure intention of providing a soundtrack for people to dance very badly while off their faces. In that way, it's like shit wine: it's made specifically to get you pissed, and taste and quality are totally a secondary concerns.
madras
quite liked some rave music. fucking hated raves.
Rob W
It was/is good music - but "changed Britain forever" How - exactly???
ChezGiven
The article isnt about rave music, its about rave culture. Anyone who went to raves, illegal parties or clubs at that time would know that the rave music quickly morphed into many sub-genres and that at the heart of the scene was hip-house, house, garage and techno. looneytoon
Does anyone remember that rumour from about 10 years ago that the guy from scooter had died? Apparently he took 100 pills and his head exploded! False, obviously.
