Northerngimp
Can anyone recommend a WWII flight sim for ps3 or PC. Summik with meaty dog fights that you can play on line with.
Dr. TC
www.airattack.co.uk Meets all your requirements. Has 1997 graphics but an amazing and active user community and fantastic gameplay. I still fly a squad match every Sunday. Only proviso is that you pretty much need a joystick for it. You can play with a pad but it'd be hard, and keys are not really on. O Neill
IL2 Sturmovik. Showing signs of age but easily the best of the lot. Requires a joystick but like all older games the problem you will find is that the players that are left are the hardcore. Last time I played everyone was extremely good and the slightest slip up resulted in a quick death.
Dr. TC
I also enjoy IL-2. It depends what you're looking for. IL-2 is much more of a 'sim', while airattack is an action arcade-style game with depth.
Northerngimp
Was hoping for summik a bit more modern.
Dr. TC
There really isn't much I'm afraid. Airattack spawned Fighter ace 2 and the 3, but they're a bit poo. I don't understand why, but there isn't much development of this kind of game any more. Crimson skies is worth a look, although that's a few years old too and set in a parallel world rather than WWII.
Northerngimp
Hmmm I really fancy some ait to air combat on line. Suprised its not being developed much with the machines being so powerful now and pretty much everyone on line with a decent connection. I suppose its all run and gun games now for the 12 year old kids.
O Neill
People aren't really interested in this genre because it requires a decent understanding of the flight model to be any good at the game. If you don't have that then it can be very frustrating as you have no chance against a good player. When you get a genre that is so unforgiving as this, people tend to get bored quickly if they aren't having much success and just move on. In a way the more realistic first person shooter games are much the same. See Operation Flashpoint and Rainbox Six 3: Raven Shield. Both are very harsh on new players therefore have always only appealed to small groups of gamers.
