Carroll played very well (goal was superb!), Wellbeck was a threat and the introduction of Walcott was in inspirational sub. However our ball retention is woeful and we are so lacking in genuine quality in midfield that it's nout short of shocking. Tiresias Posted June 15, 2012 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Young was shit too, much worse than when Roy had him as a no 10, was awful defensively and didn't do much going forwards. Carroll did well, diminished a lot later in game though. Welbeck was good, not much convinced by his build up play but seems a natural finisher. Walcott was good coming on, but I can see the logic in him coming on as a sub against tired legs rather than starting, though that logic is diminished somewhat by Milner as the alternative. Central midfield was poor too, couldn't keep the ball at all, and defence standard shambles. It will never happen but I'd switch out Baines for Cole, who had a quiet game, and Baines is probably the best crosser of the ball we have, and would probably get more goals out of Carroll than Gerrard imo.
