Big Geordie
Suffering a bit at the mo. Had a couple of fillings done yesterday and as the dentist warned, one hasn't appeared to have worked. So looks like the tooth is gonna have to come out, but have gotta wait until Monday when the Dental Hospital opens again. Don't think I could afford an emergency appointment (skint) Currently taking 200mg Ibuprofen which is taking the edge off it a bit - can anyone recommend owt else (legal I might add!) Pilko
Get something to knock you to sleep tonight, I had toothache about a year ago after a botched filling (just needed it re-done, no tooth removal or anything) and it was the worst at night.
Big Geordie
Been doing some research, and I can alternate the Ibuprofen with Paracetamol, so hopefully that should help too. Have already had 4 Ibuprofen today though. Just bloody sods law that I'm gonna have to wait until Monday morning to get this sorted. I had a look for an emergency dentist, but there don't seem to be many in Newcastle on a Saturday, nevermind a Sunday.
catmag
400mg ibuprofen and 1g of paracetamol OR co-codamol every 4-6 hours. Sometimes warm compresses on your jaw or cheek can help too. I can absolutely sympathise. I've got to go into hospital on Thursday for a partially erupted/impacted wisdom tooth out and i'm dreading it
Big Geordie
I hear getting wisdom teeth out isn't good. Are they gonna put you under, Catmag?
catmag
Been doing some research, and I can apparently take up to 6 Ibuprofen in 24 hours. I've already had 4 in the last 6hrs though. :-/ I can alternate them with Paracetamol though, so hopefully that should help too. Just bloody sods law that I'm gonna have to wait until Monday morning to get this sorted. I had had a look for an emergency dentist, but there don't seem to be many in Newcastle on a Saturday, nevermind a Sunday. You can take 400mg at a time and if it's only temporary til Monday then 4 hourly will be okay unless you have any reflux problems or stomach ulcers. catmag
I hear getting wisdom teeth out isn't good. Are they gonna put you under, Catmag? I had one out last year just at the dentist with local anaesthetic which didn't hurt while they were doing it but they just speared the tooth and rocked it back and forth til it ripped out. The sensation was sickening. I was in agony for a week afterwards. This time it's more complicated as the tooth is barely through the gum and migrating towards my jawbone. I'm having local and enough sedation to totally knock me out without it being a general anaesthetic. Dreading the following week though.

Haz
If you can tolerate them, CODIS are the best bet and prescribed by the oral -maxillo guys that take out wisdom teeth. Also oil of cloves - on the tooth, not the gum - can often sooth any pain for a short while.
Jill
Veganin is the only thing that seems to work for me when I have toothache. I've been really lucky with my teeth, never had a filling and although I've had a fair few out, it was because my mouth was overcrowded rather than problems with the teeth. My boyfriend's had 2 teeth out and a filling recently, with another filling due in a few weeks. He asked me what he'd done to deserve it while opening a pack of Haribo and drinking a can of pop. pedro111
Is there not an emergency dental hospital you can go to? Im sure you can go to the Dental Hospital in Newcastle just off the street. You'll probably have to sit and wait for hours and hours to be seen but if the pain is that bad then you might want to look into that. I might be wrong though. Big Geordie
Dental Hospital at the RVI is only open Mon-Fri, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'd have gone this pm to get it sorted. http://www.newcastle-hospitals.org.uk/services/dental__dental-emergency-clinic.aspx Friend of mine has told me this pm that they have been turning people away (happened to someone in his family) I bet they would do it to me, with me having my own dentist. To get the bloody tooth out is probably gonna cost about £100. £60 for the emergency apt and the rest for the treatment. And I'm skint too.
Big Geordie
Just spoken to the mother-in-law - she reckons the Dental Hospital will turn me away, so looks like it's my own dentist. Just hope I can get in to see her on the Monday.

Ring them first thing and if they will absolutely not see you then the dental hospital will - they have to.
Crumpy Gunt
I'm sure Jacko's Dr can give you something for your pain. Just give it an hour and the pain will be gone - forever.

Big Geordie
Managed to get in at my dentist for 12. They'll probs ask me for another £50, but surely as the filling didn't work - getting the tooth whipped out should still be part of the same treatment that I've already paid for? Big Geordie
Tooth is now gone and have got to take it easy for the afternoon. Just trying to stem the bleeding from the socket. Wasn't a big deal, but the dentist did have to have a good go at getting it out!
AyeDubbleYoo
I had two wisdom teeth out the other week, wasn't as bad as I thought... only just getting used to the feeling of not having them there. The lack of pain is amazing though, I can chew again! Remember to rinse loads with salt and water
