Metro services are not operating between Haymarket and South Gosforth. This is as at the request of the police following an incident in the Jesmond area.

Arrangements have been made for bus operators in the area to accept Metro tickets. Passengers wishing to travel southbound past South Gosforth are advised to alight at Four Lane Ends or Regent Centre as there is greater options for buses at these locations.

Pain in the arse, had to get a bus to work and will have to get one home at rush hour the way it's going. Anyone know what's happened?

Suicide attempt

Something about not being willing to live without MJ in their life.

(but really, I'd heard someone threw themselves infront of a train somewhere near Jesmond)

Funny thing is I actually heard an Ambulance as I was walking towards it. :dowie:

It might as well turn round, he'll be dead by now like.

Anyoe remember the pre metro , BR trains?

I even remember the electric ones that preceded the diesel ones that preceded the metro. There used to be coal fires in the waiting rooms in some of the stations, and vending machines that sold you a packet of chocolate raisins for a tanner.

I don't remember them -- wasn't often around Wallsend way when I was a kid.

There's some pics of the electric trains on here:

I also remember, in 1964, they painted all the stations -- well, doors and windows and such -- with turquoise gloss to smarten them up before the Royal Family came through, and you can still see traces of that paint on the metro here and there. Noticed it on a pillar at Tynemouth station last time I passed that way.

I remember that, I don't think it had a ticket office in it, I think the ticket office was at one end of it.

yeah, i think I was about 10 when it was shut. I think the ticket office was in this underground part of the station( the weird bit), on the south side ,where the under track tunnel joined the stairs to the platform? dont ask me why I have vivid memories of old wallsed station. :undecided:

just been looking , and found stuff about Carville station and the old riverside route, I never even knew existed.
