Staying in Manhattan

Right, i'm sick of looking online and finiding ridiculus prices for accomodation in Manhattan so it's worth a try.

I'm trying to get over to Manhattan for a week or 2 in june/july is time next year, however they're all looking like it's going to cost me around about atleast a grand for 2weeks. Does anybody have any idea's where i'd find anything cheaper or if there's any little hotels/b&b type of things on the outskirts which are within easy reach of the centre of manhattan.

Cheers.

Well I work for BA and as such I can get relatively cheap flights (through my manager) so the flights aren't the problem, it's just the accomodation once we get there, I haven't booked any flights yet until we can find some accomodation (or the cheapest times, obviously around July 4th it may push the prices up a little bit so either side of that may be better).

I'm not overly fussed on the dates, aslong as its from around between late may / late august

Haha, me too.

BA productivity WIN.

All I was gonna do is look on Holiday Hotline. Seems pricey still though.

Haha, I guess you got the same email a few days back then.

Think i'll just have to end up stumping up the cash really.

Well I've got staff travel, so sed email is just an annoyance to me more than anything.

Ah right, I'm classed as a "contractor" therefore I can't actually get the flights myself but the managers are more than happy to book them.

Ah that old Chesnut. You never know, one day you could join the dizzy heights of 'Performance & Services'

Or maybe I'll just intentionally forget all my passwords so I can give you some more work.

Guest Gemmill

I've stayed in the Essex House and the Millennium Hilton, but I don't think either of them were cheap.  Although tbh if you want cheap accommodation, Manhattan probably isn't the best place in the world.

I stayed in Candy Hostel on 95th Street, about 5mins walk from a Metro Station.

Yep it wasnt the ritz, but we had a double room with tv, shared bathroom. Private room was $20 each per night, or dorms were like $15. Remember you will pay "hotel room tax" additional to your invoice, when you arrive.

Theres loads of hostels around that area, i always use hostelworld.com.

Hostels for the win. :nods:

We stayed in Jazz On The Park, it was pretty good.

Cental park studios on 105th street is nice. Me and a mate stayed their in 2007.

We were however apparently the only white people in a 2 mile radius. It seemed that this had bitten us in the arse 10 minutes after checking in, when we got a knock at our door and we told to 'get out, now! Fucking white boys' by the 50 year old African-American manager. Fotunately he was just jesting and moving us to a bigger, nicer room.

Most hostels are between 86th and 105th streets, West side.

Doesnt really make any difference which you stay on, they are all at least a 45-60min walk to the sites, or 10-15 mins on the metro. Its just so fuckin big, walking thru Central Park was like 30mins from 95th near our hostel to the bottom of it on 59th.

Good thing is Metro passes are so funking cheap - $27 unlimited travel for 7 days. Even gets you to and from the JFK Air Train stations at Jamaica and Howard Beach (takes a while mind!)
