Haz
Well the wee French Midget weighed in with an official opinion. The Burka is not welcome in France. For all it signifies, should we not be saying the same thing? Why do we allow women to walk around looking like Darth Vader? It has clearly nothing to do with Islam and all to do with the misogeny of old archiac ways. Strangely, there is no outcry from the women's libbers or any womans interest groups. What do you think? Northerngimp
If women are forced to wear it then somethig mut be done but if women choose to wear it then its fine TBH. Seen a lady in one today in Fenwicks, thought she looked quite fetchig, I did think they could sas it up with some dazzling 80s neon colours tho. That could be to crazy tho. Guest Stephen927
I served two women with burkas on at work, and I turned around to get their change for the sugar cones they bought, and when I turned round they had taken a lick but their burkas were still on. Truly mysterious.
The Prophet
Nearly got ran over by some lass trying to reverse wearing Burka in Fenham about a month ago, she clearly couldn't see. Seriously though, this country is losing it's national identity, problem is it's too far gone to really do anything about it.
Haz
I could think of one or two in the Bigg market who wouldnt suffer from wearing one but in general its not the womans choice (although I do know Some women choose it- but its out of cultural identity)

AyeDubbleYoo
In a free democracy we shouldn't legislate to control either freedom of religion or what people wear I reckon. I hate the Burkha and think it is a terrible and oppressive piece of clothing, but I'm lead to believe that some people wear it out of choice. I know it is cultural rather than purely religious, but I don't think banning is a useful thing to do. I would love to see the end of it, but then I'd love to see the end of all religion and everything that goes along with it.
Guest Heneage
It was funny to read "Ban the Burkha by The Prophet." It's a choice really, the only place it should not be allowed is if a School or job says you cannot.

Look, fuck Muslim sensibility, there is nothing in Islam, nothing, that says women have to wear Burkas or ?chadors. Its a cultural, I am boss thing. And it gets ignored. Besides which, wearing a burka is proven to be bad for the health of the woman and her babies.

What people normally mean is, 'the country isn't exactly the same as it was when I was born'. Historically the culture of Britain has always changed, not so long ago French was a majority language. BlueStar
I think they should certainly be pro-active in terms of helping women who are forced to wear it, but I don't see how outlawing women from wearing it if they want to is any better than forcing women to wear it who don't want to. And of course you shouldn't be allowed to wear it anywhere you wouldn't be allowed to wear anything else that covers your face. If you won't take it off for your driving license or passport photo, tough, no driving license or passport. Likewise if you wouldn't be allowed to wear a motorbike helmet or ski mask in a bank, sorry, no burkhas either. Same goes for schoolgirls and BA employees who demand an exception to rules against wearing necklaces just because it's a crucifix.
