Dave
Anyone seen one? I'm talking about the current tech which seems to be rising in popularity. Is it any good?

LoveItIfWeBeatU
I've seen IMAX films in 3D in Las Vegas. They weren't movies, more 45 minute documentaries like 'Under the Sea' and stuff like that. They were pretty good but I don't know what a 2 hour film will be like. I did notice a sign in the Odeon on Silverlink saying that tickets for films in 3D will carry a 'surcharge'. Cinema trips have become way too expensive. Orange Wednesday's are the only way I go to the cinema now.
Dave
The surcharge is for the glasses from what I've heard; basically they won't sell you a ticket without you buying a new pair each time. So I imagine it works out at about a tenner.

Not a very 'green' policy in this day and age.
Guest toonlass
I know its a bairns film, but we saw Monsters v Aliens in 3d and it was bloody brilliant. The first 3d film I have seen since Jaws was 3d in the 80's and I was well impressed at how much better it was tbh.
Dokko
They need to make the glasses durable (reusable) while putting a small premium on the ticket price and having a high deposit fee or it will never take off. £10 to see a film? Imagine taking the family? What an utter joke.
Dave
The glasses are completely reusable, they presumably need to charge for them every time to cover the enormous cost of installing the 3D projectors. I'm only going off what Mark Kermode has said about all this, hence the thread asking what people on here think. He reckons they're pushing it so hard to try and combat piracy - offering a unique feature that simply cannot be reproduced outside of a cinema. Interesting article on it (and the possible implications for the gaming industry) here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/depth-charges-article

localshop
Coraline in 3D was really good. Hurts my eyes a bit though.
cubaricho
Over here the glasses are reuseable and actually look pretty good. They are modeled after a pair of Ray-Bans and look almost exactly like this: http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/5136/3fyxed.jpg
indi
Anyone seen one? I'm talking about the current tech which seems to be rising in popularity. Is it any good? Not seen a film, but the second half of the Kraftwerk gig was in 3D and it was amazing, so the technology is certainly available to do it well now.
