Travelling with National Express coaches

I'm going to V Festival next month on a National Express coach. I don't fancy travelling for 5+ hours without any drink but I don't think they allow you to drink on the coach. Anyone know if they bother checking for alcohol or if it is easy to get some on the coach. I would take vodka in a coke bottle if I have to like.

Also, anyone got any advice on what to take and not what to take to a festival. Never been to one before. I'm planning on buying a shit cheap tent (probably leave it there), and taking enough cans to get me through half of Friday and the Saturday and Sunday mornings and nights. Been told to take fuck all else apart from shit clothes as theres loads of tramps stealing from tents.

On the V website there is (or will be) a list of suggested things to take - worth having a look through this and tailoring it to fit your own needs. Alcohol, tent, waterproof jacket and toilet roll are always first on my list.

As for drinking on NE coaches, not done it myself but you'd have to put it in a pop bottle. They didn't search or anything last time I was on one but some lads nearly got chucked off for having cans.

Every time Ive been on a National Express coach, which is a fair bit, they at the least ask if you have alcohol in your bags. They never look in them, but once the driver made me put my bag in the buses boot. If youve got cans, or anything theyll take them off you. Id go for the secret agent approach with a coke bottle.

Halfords have a really good deal on at the moment I think for loads of camping gear. I think its £100 altogether, if thats still too much then Id try the supermarkets, they sell tents and ridiculously low prices now.

Had to use the coaches 4 times recently and they didn't even bother checking my tickets let alone if I had alcohol with me. Would imagine it would be a piece of piss sneaking it on. That said it was just me and my lass so its not as if we were going to get hammered.

Aye I think I'll go for the coke bottle then if they don't check to make sure the bottle hasn't been opened. So its fine to take cans in your luggage as long as you don't drink on the bus then? Might be a daft question but I'd hate to chuck away loads of cans   I think i'm just gonna get a shitty £20 tent. Don't think I'll bother with any other camping gear since I'm skint and i'd have to borrow the equipment. What do you lot do for food then, just eat the shit overpriced fast food all weekend?

Normally I just take shit like crisps, sweets to snack on when I'm round the tents then buy stuff in the arena during the day. There's plenty to choose from, I became addicted to pancakes with ham & cheese last year, and jacket potatoes as I'm not a great fan of chips & burgers. I tend to have a mostly Strongbow diet though and never end up eating a great deal.

I'll think you'll be fine, just don't act a twat on the bus and piss off everyone else.

I brought 2 and a half litres of Ouzo in my luggage on the way back, they won't check.

You're fucking joking! Hope theres somewhere nearby where I can get some cans from then. Don't fancy paying £3.50 a pop from morning until night every day.

Aye, but they dont check, just make sure you dont give them the chance to see it. It'll be fine as long as you dont act like a tit.

Where does the coach drop off?

We've got the train down and stocked up on drink at Wolverhampton/Stafford before then got a bus over to the campsite. Far easier than carting it all the way down. Normally just get the train and get friends who are driving to take our drink though.

Thing is though I'll be drinking quite a lot of cans on the Friday then quite a few on the mornings and nights of Saturday and Sunday as well. Is it gonna be so easy to carry maybe 24 cans on a bus without getting searched at all? If it comes down to it like my mate is driving down and he would probably take some down for me.

I doubt you'll manage to sneak a festival-amount of drink on. And get your mate to take it

I doubt youd get away with that unless maybe you used one of those big Rugby player bags, theyd make you put that in the buses boot though, probably.

Not sure to be exact. Wor lasses brother booked the weekend camping/coach package so I don't know any of the details. Quite annoyed actually because I was on holiday when he booked them and the tickets we wanted sold out everywhere he was looking but i've just looked at seetickets and you can get weekend tickets for about £160 without travel. We've just paid £270 each for camping and travel (not sure where from, obviously some unofficial ticket place).

They won't search your bags. The trouble with taking a lot of cans is if you pack them altogether it'll be pretty obvious the bag is full of cans. If you do take cans, split them inbetween your mates bags too.

You won't get away with drinking the cans on the bus, but you might get away with taking them down there. The driver will possibly get bollocked if the coach is stopped and the police find people drinking, so hide it in bottles.

s***, I need to work out how I'm getting to V.

With the size of the bag that Leazes is going to have to take to fit all the cans in, there'll probably be a bit room for you in there, free coach ride.

Just asked my mate to take my cans down anyway, would be less stuff to carry and without any risk. Think i'll take down loads of shitty snacks for around the tent. Is it that bad for getting your tent robbed? Are wellies that essential as well or will a shitty old pair of trainers do.

I'm looking to take a tent, sleeping bag, old clothes for each day, old trainers, snacks, toilet roll, money, bottles of water, groundsheet, torch, alcohol, shower stuff. That should do aye?

Been 3 times and never been robbed, thankfully. Don't pitch your tent too close to the main pathways or the fences and you should be ok. Goes without saying, but don't leave valuables in your tent.

Wellies are best, buy them there if you want. Trainers will do, but I've ruined 2 pairs at festivals so prefer wellies now.

Aye

As for money.. I normally take around £100, always end up taking more out at the campsite though.

Reet last question for now then. How much are the pints of lager? So fucking skint i'm very tight for money. Ideally i would like to spend less than £120 like.  Cheers again for all the help.
