Spider Jerusalem
Never been a fan of this series. Bought ISS on the Playstation, and while it looked pretty, there were just things I couldn't get away with. There were times it felt that you we're not in charge of the game, player selection was flakey and the computer controlled team AI was a hell of a lot better than that of your team mates. These things seem to have dogged the game since this first inception all the way to the last one I played which was 2008. The series gave some innovations, through balls for example, but the yearly iterations have never really improved on a year to year level to really justify continued release. FIFA seems to have reached a point now where the game engine now only needs a tweak and I'm not sure about getting it this year - I have it on order for £31 from Amazon at the minute but not sure whether I'm going to keep the order open. M4
They're going to have to produce one hell of an epic overhaul of a game for me to switch back over to Pro Evo. Was the daddy from 2002 until last year for me, but FIFA09 is really a great game.

I played PES/ISS since it was ISS Pro, but when PES 2009 came out I thought enough was enough. FIFA 09 really is a good game, but there are a load of faults with the game, I still dont get the feeling that my player is completely free in his movement like he was in PES. I could pick fault in football games for pages and pages so I'll refrain, but the long short of it is that PES will need to be very fucking good to get me back. Especially now Newcastle aren't likely to be in it
Guest Taff
I'm with the majority on this. Played FIFA until PES2007, loved it, then PES2008, loved it (but dodgy on line), PES2009, absolute shite! Been on FIFA09 and was planning on getting '10. Will wait until my mates buy Pro Evo' and see what it's like, if it is return of the king. I will switch back. Guest Stephen927
PES 6 was the last Pro Evo game I enjoyed but that was worse than 5 imo. Will probably just get FIFA 10 and miss out on PES2010 until it goes down in price if it looks good. I spent hundreds of hours on the old PES games just playing single player, something I can't really do on FIFA 09 as the Manager Mode feels like it's missing something compared to the Master League. “the most challenging, realistic and satisfying PES to date”. They say that every year.
junkhead
The Master League is a big pile of crap and as such it cannot evolve unless they rewrite the logic from scratch. It seems to me that two different software teams are developing this game - some Japanese hi-tech guru geeks that have created the flawless match engine, graphics and animations and one that consists of brain-dead idiots on acid who are responsible for the game modes, squad research and interfaces. Regardless, I've always been a fan and I'll probably buy this one too, once all the 2GB updates and patches are out..

Agree with you there - the Master League on Pro Evo was brilliant. Also, FIFA has all the strips, badges, players etc. Although I did love designing the strips and adding the players' names myself. I'm so sad.
SEMTEX
I disagree about the Master League. I don't understand what people think is so good about it. The fake player progression is unrealistic to the max and the transfer system is ridiculous. I'm not saying FIFA is much different on that front, but neither is great. Guest Stephen927
I like the regens, starting with the likes of Vornander and Miranda, it's hard to explain why it can be quite addictive.
Guest ObiChrisKenobi
Needs a huge rehaul from the ground up, it hasn't been a 'new' game since the last PES on the original xbox for me. Each release after that was the same game, with a slightly different cover and official team. The gameplay dated quickly and the less said about the online coding the better. O Neill
Needs to take the step into full anologue control as opposed to the 8 way movement it offers now. The next real advancement of the genre for me would be to get the AI up to a level where it cuts out exploits and obvious scoring methods while not cheating to do so. Both games currently have major issues with teammate AI. What PES used to do well was allow you to pick it up and play football with simple controls while offering more complex options to players who want a more involving experience. The set piece creation tool in FIFA looks good and will be the sort of thing that can add great depth to the game if done properly.
Dokko
They're going to have to produce one hell of an epic overhaul of a game for me to switch back over to Pro Evo. Was the daddy from 2002 until last year for me, but FIFA09 is really a great game. Pro Evo was great pre 2002 as well, fell apart when it jumped to next gen (1st release on the 360) and from thereon its got progressively worse...fukers made me buy Fifa 09 which is shite compared to the last PES release on the PS2, 3 i think it was, had Collina on the front. That for me was PES's pinnacle moment.
AfroP
I like both Fifa09 and PES but when it comes to multi-player(in the same room not over the net) you cant beat PES for some 4 player 2 on 2. if Fifa could sort out their woeful 3+player then it would indeed be the king
Guest Taff
Another problem PES is going to have this year, is that's FIFA is being released two weeks before it. Unless it's a complete overhaul, it could be a record low for sales. They've taken the piss out of their hardcore following for far to long (just like Newcastle actually!),taking is for granted. I think they know now, FIFA has taken over and this release needs to be big.
TaylorJ_01
Speaking from a purely occasional playing standpoint I've always preferred PES. I haven't owned any Fifa's or PES's but I play it all the time at mates house's and suchlike. In PES for me it's easier to tell the difference between players attributes when you are playing. I keep finding myself going in Fifa 'he's supposed to be fast' or 'his shootings supposed to be well good', but alas. Like the newest fifa, haven't really played the newest PES but I think Fifa should make the shooting more like the old PS2 PES games. It's too hard to score decent goals, to date I haven't scored a long range goal in Fifa 09 that hasn't accidentaly lobbed the keeper.

You see, as a frequent player of the game, those are the kind of things I wouldn't want to see. You can score long range goals in FIFA, they're just difficult to do. Also I'm not so sure I want it to be any more obvious which players are good at certain skills. It's pretty obvious if you're comparing C.Ronaldo with some League Two muppet. Perhaps you don't see as much as a difference between him and other top flight players, but there is definitely a difference.

Pilko
FIFA is more of a serious football game and PES is a more arcadey, pick up and play football game imo. I'm a FIFA man, although I do dip into PES2008 every now and again.
