toonpete1892
Hi In an attempt to speed up my desktop I'm looking to transfer a lot of 'keep sake' files across to an external hardrive, such as various photo albums, 6th form / uni work, old music etc. Probably half the stuff on there could be moved so it would be more for storage rather than continuous use. Been looking at a few sites and a 500gb would be more than enough (could go lower). Whats best? Where from? Current offers? Things to stay clear of? Cheers
Willow
I recommend Maxtor One Touch, Seagate or Western Digital drives. I have a 500gb maxtor one touch I bought from pc world a year ago for £80 but I think its gone down 10 or 20 quid now. Plenty of good external hd prices around at the moment. mattynufc
Elements external hard drives are also quite robust to add to Willows post, never had a problem with them.
wacko
NOT Western Digital! I've had a lot of problems with those drives, and I've heard about an awful lot of problems. They look like tat, feel like tat, and basically are tat. Worth considering buying an external HD case and hand-picking a drive to put in it. Bit more expensive up front, but you can upgrade the drive easily without having to buy a new case every time, and you know that you've got a good drive in it.
