Crumpy Gunt
Noticed the other day when I tried to burn something on NERO that when I clicked BURN there wasn't the name of my burner in drop down options. When I put a DVD into the laptop it doesn't start and when I click 'my computer' to try start it it refuses. My DVD burner has disappeared.
Willow
strange, maybe try going into control panel > system > device manager does it show up there? I'd say try to get the latest driver (or even the current one) for it
Crumpy Gunt
When I right click the DVD-ROM icon in my computer it shows the ROM as being there and working. Yet the bastard stil isn't being recognised. I've checked for driver updates and latest drivers are installed it tells me.
Willow
only thing I'd suggest is uninstall it and then install the latest driver again, may do the trick

Guest Lazlo
What's the craik when you go into device manager ? Is there anything with a question mark next to it ? Have a look at your ide ata/atapi controllers. If there's a problem it will either be present in cd/dvd rom drives or ide /ata atapi in device manager. Dvd-roms don't need drivers, you've either got a bust dvd/rom,or the cable has become unseated. An ide driver missing or virus and nastiness. more info. What happens when you right click the drive in my computer ?. Try a cd, does it play cd's and not dvd's ? you could try a system restore to rule out a few software things. Funny thing is that when this happens it's not major usually. Can you post back with what i said in the 4th line, can you see the files on the cd/dvd ?
