Ocho
Got a new one to replace my old one. How easy is to install it?
Dave
Depends on the make, but on a Dell it's as easy as stopping it in the notification area, pulling it out and putting the new one in.
Ocho
It's am HP Pavillion if that's any help? The example you gave sounds similar to the one I installed in my PC. Is it basically the same process for all?
Dave
Well a PC would be slightly different because you'd have to mount it physically and potentially install new drivers etc. If you've bought a like-for-like replacement it should be a simple case of switching one for the other. My work Dell has a push-button that pops out and you simply pull the drive out (after stopping it in Windows).

When you say stopping it in Windows - do you mean going into Device Manager?
Dave
Nah man, just go into the system tray (bottom right) and look for the icon for safely removing hardware. On this machine, the drive is listed there. Stop it, then do the swap. Alternatively you could just do it when the machine is off but I'm not sure sure how this will affect things. I'll give it a whizz when I get home.
khay
I normally just remove them no bother when off on laptops. HP ones as well.
mattynufc
I normally just remove them no bother when off on laptops. HP ones as well. Same, none of that fancy precautionary stuff Dave suggested If it wont come out, there is sometimes a small screw (generally just 1) particulary in HP laptops on the bottom of the laptop which they put in to stop the drive falling out during shipping.
