Tbf to Neesy what h's saying isn't that daft like, Barton is settled and probably our key player at the minute, where as Ben Arfa is still unproven in this league, and COULD very well still flop/never fully recover.

I think it's pretty clear like of the limited time we did see him that he will not flop, and is by some distance the most talented player we've had in years at the club, but still, the risks are still there.

Barton has been fantastic this season and I also agree that the current board of directors have no fucking clue on how to boil a kettle never mind run a football club.

But Barton is 28, on massive wages and only has 18months left to run on his current deal. This time next year are Newcastle going to renew his contract at 29 years old and give him the wages that he will want? The next contract Barton will sign will more than likely be his last so like any other player in the modern game he wants to bleed dry whoever is going to give him that contract. Because of this I have a feeling McKay is behind a lot of this speculation.

Also Sidwell is in talks with West Ham so that just confirms that this story is bollocks!

Really hope we keep him but what if selling Barton was the only way to afford to keep Ben Arfa. What would you rather?

Barton.  Ben Arfa has done hardly nothing apart from that everton match & we don't know the impact of the injury will be on him.

Yeah, hence why I said in the post you quoted "tbf to Neesy". This is hardly rocket science, man.

Tbf to neesy he's talking absolute bollocks. Barton has made a difference this year, but players like him in the Premiership are easily found, I wouldn't want to sell him obviously, not this season anyway. If we sold him January AND replaced him I wouldn't be too upset. Secondly, the argument that players who suffer serious injuries never come back the same is a flawed one. Broken bones normally heal quite well and in many cases come back stronger. A serious injury is a test of a player's mental strength, we saw Shearer suffer an injury that has ended careers and he adapted his game to stay at the top. Just because Eduardo is s*** now doesn't mean Ben Arfa will be.

And just because shearer did it, doesn't mean Ben Arfa will.

Players like him are easily found in the premiership? At 1.5M i don't think so.

Cahill, Duff, Parker, Nolan, N'zogbia there are loads of them, average players that have a little bit of extra quality that help mid-table or strugglins sides. £1.5m would only be just under valuation imo given Barton's reputation and past problems. If it wasn't for his reputation he'd command £4-5m.

The injury argument works both ways but you failed to acknowledge that, your being overdramatic and  and reading too much into a story that is probably bollocks anyway.

Who says we will even sign him in the summer.

People getting way ahead of themselves re: HBA.

I dont know where SkySports got that info from, but usually they are reliable. But there have been times when they are wrong, and I hope this is one of them. I dont see any reason why we would want to sell Barton, who is arguably one of our best players this season. Maybe Pardew want to keep, but Ashley is asking him to let him go. That would be interesting. But if we do lose Barton in January, that would be a big blow.

Neesy has a a fair point I reckon. We really need to see how Ben Arfa is after this injury before committing to signing him and labelling him as the best thing ever. There's a chance the injury might have affected him mentally. Prior to his injury there's no doubt that on top form Ben Arfa's the better player (on paper) but we don't even know how he'll adapt to the English game yet, I don't think you can tell after 3 just appearances.

Sky Sports News haven't reported it, didn't the Sky Sports news website just take over some other transfer rumour website for their 'transfer centre' thing?

What does the story even say? Someone post it ffs.

Sky Sports.com understands that Newcastle are willing to listen to offers of £1.5m for Joey Barton.

That's the jist of it. It's bollocks basically.
