Joey Barton

i simply cant muster any frustration with him for saying all that because he's absolutely right imo

Naming players the way he's done goes a step too far, regardless of "how oh so right" he is. Guess some on here have never worked in a professional environment, and don't have a clue what outside interference can do to morale. My one and only concern is that these players who are still with us remain focused on the football, and not get fidgety because some c*** who's been chucked out on his arse is s*** stirring, and creating waves in the media.

yeah, ive never worked in a profesional environment.

his tweets wont unsettle a team if they've got anything about them, removing the best players will.

Absolute rubbish. The tweets get picked up by the media, and continue to keep the club in the news for the wrong reasons!! If you don't think media can put pressure on a football club, then you can't have been around English football for that long!

edit: Plus, are his tweets going to stop the best players getting sold? (I agree with you that selling your best unsettles other players, that's obvious)

i've worked in a professional environment and i've been around english football for ages, any other daft presumptions you'd like to base a point on?

since when has media pressure made any difference to mike ashley's football club? i'm not even sure what point you're arguing now. what 'media pressure' is going to come as a result of bartons tweets other than pressure to stop selling our best players (for incoming transfer fees and so we dont have to re-negotiate contracts) as barton is highlighting?

i can't agree that his tweets will unsettle anyone in our squad, every single one of them should be aware they have a price on their head and that if they've got a year left on a big contract it's not gonna be easy to get another one. why would they have to read joey barton's tweets to know that?

i'm not applauding barton for it but i'm certainly not condemning it. getting into a position where you deny someone the right to speak the truth in order to allow us to keep running the club on a shoestring budget without players getting unsettled is a completely backwards position, imo.

Amusing that it's those who call him a 'cunt', think we're better off without him, 'won't miss him one bit', that are the ones quickest to comment on him. I'd imagine they're still following this 'cunt' on Twitter, aye?

I have never understood the "good on him, at least someone isn't letting Ashley get away with it" stance. What help does it do?

Nothing, frankly. Still important that someone does it, even if its Joey Barton. For every forumboarder who knows everything there is 15 grandma`s out there who might be interested in what Joey has to say.

Why does everything have to have an impact for it to be a valid thing to say.

No it wont change anything, but its a valid and accurate concern and hopefully it will wind Dekka and Ashley up. Good enough for me.

Why is it important that it's said?

It's not and he doesn't give two f***s about the "Geordie Nation", he is just bitter he didn't get what he wanted.

Cause it puts pressure on the board, as little as it may seem.

As far as being a Geordie, I think you are wrong. I think Barton genuinely likes the club and the fans etc, and hes sorry he had to go

and ignore the rest of my post? should I presume you would be alright with Tiote, Coloccini, Krul and Jonas getting unsettled, and not playing for the shirt while still here?

Thats up to them as professionals.

But Barton is right.

I always liked Barton when he played for us, but tweets like " I missed games last yr, how many did u win? #JustSaying" and the criticism of the signing of Santon is just pathetic. Move on and focus on your new club with the ambition you have been looking for..

He is right about Santon too. I am hopeful that he recaptures his form of a few years back, and he is still young.

But the reason we got him ( imo) is that he has been something of a stalled prospect - it could go both ways really.

Still support the lad mind.

Would rather have Enrique though.

@aknufc95 selling their assets and replacing with cheaper gambles. Santon?? 16 games since 2008, in a poor Italian league, hardly proven PL

You're a bit precious if you think that's a dig, like.

Strange that it's now 'stating the obvious' when as little as two days ago so many were still deluding themselves that he was totally wrong.

Agreed.

Not completely sure this is entirely correct either.

Many people who have been saying the board just want to sell our best players, want to sign people on the cheap etc.. got excited over our last minute "move" for Ruiz.

Just because you have a lapse in reality and let yourself get deluded in the heat of the moment doesn't mean that deep down you have guessed all along it won't happen and your intitial beliefs were correct.

I am one of the more optimistic posters but said quite a while ago that I don't think we will be getting a forward due to Pardews comments and the way it dragged on. That opinion changed a few times as different things were said from different media sources leading up to the end of the window.

If you don't see that naming a player personally and mocking (incorrectly) their achievements is a dig then, well,I don't know

We replaced one of the absolute best left-backs in the league with a Italian youngster who have been stalling the last couple of years and hardly played - at all.

Im hopeful he will turn out to be the player everyone makes him out to be, but to say this is something other than a downgrade ( and arguably a massive gamble) would be to deceive yourself.

Been sick of Barton for a while now like, his pseudo-intellectual bullshit was embarrassing enough when he played for us, now his bitter digs are just pathetic.

He's acting like a self-pitying bloke who's just been dumped by the fittest girlfriend he'll ever have.

Agree, that's pure mocking.

He is saying he is not PL-proven, that goes for all new foreigners. Dunno if that is mocking like.

Don't think anyone has said it isn't a step down from Enrique at this moment in time. Players or ex players shouldn't be saying such things in the public eye though.

Are you reading the same thing as me? He's pointed out that the lad is a gamble, and doesn't have any PL experience. Whether that's right or wrong (it's right, btw), it's certainly not 'mocking' him.

I think there is some distance between saying he is unproven and havent played much, and saying he is shit. Quite some distance.
