there used to be a pattern......as soon as christmas disappeared the shops turned to the new years sales, that over with came easter, then summer wear, then back to school, halloween, bonfire night back to christmas.

now halloween and bonfire night have all but disappeared, the new year sales start mid december...no fucking wonder the weather has got a clue if its coming or going or what it's supposed to be ding and when.

It used to really annoy my mum (she's a teacher) when ASDA were putting out their "BACK 2 SCHOOL" gear about two weeks before term ended.

midds could possibly sympathise.

Worst time of the summer in my childhood that like. Seeing all those promotions with the realisation that you do infact have to go back to school soon. Grim.

Debenhams in the Metrocentre putting out their Christmas decorations to sell tonight.  :dowie:

Do you mean like baubles and stuff to sell without actually decorating the shop?

To be honest, when I get my own place in future, I think I would rather spend a bit of money on christmas decorations in August and shove them in a box under the spare bed until December, rather than have to pay for that in addition to presents and food over November and December.

Buy them in January on the cheap.

That solution doesn't really work for the new first home scenario I've given though, as unless you move in in January (1/12 chance) you aren't in a position to benefit. And besides, all the good decs left over in January will simply go into the storeroom and come back out next Christmas, so unless you want the more tatty stuff that you won't have in 5 years, it isn't really an option.

Aye, but all you need on your first Xmas is a poxy plastic tree, some flashy lights and a Mrs. Santa outfit for your missus.

There is one distinct problem in your suggestion.

If you have no woman then all you need is a poxy Christmas tree, some flashy lights, and two crates of cheap lager.
