Think flying economy is bad now? New aircraft design puts passengers face-to-face in rows for budget travel

Air travel is being overhauled with a new aircraft design which plans to seat passengers facing each other in rows.

The controversial design is intended to save space and money and could see 50 per cent more passengers packed on to each plane.

Howard Guy, director of the UK company Design Q, acknowledges that some people will not be happy with the plan, but says they will be able to pay less for any inconvenience.

This was released months ago, it's very far from actually being used.

I personally don't think it's a bad idea for flights less than 2 hrs. However, it goes along side with the notion of catching a plane is the same way you'd get on a train or bus, but with all the excessive security around airports, people are unable to act in the same way. The constrains brought about by the restriction on certain items in hand-luggage, and the general treacle-pace of security areas of airports = slow, laborious, stressful experience.

My mate says he pulled on a plane, none of us believe him

Did he not say he pulled one off on a plane?

Nar but that would be far more realistic. The same mate drank 5 of our piss mixed together for a tenner.

It looks as if the layout is like a Hercules or most military transporters. They must be expecting passengers to hook up and jump out the back.

At least, if the thing goes crashing, with the right luck, you'll be able to put your head between someone else's knees.
