Bruce Forsyth has said people should have a "sense of humour" about the Strictly Come Dancing race row.

There were calls for professional dancer Anton Du Beke to be sacked after he admitted calling his show partner, actress Laila Rouass, a "Paki".

But host Forsyth says that in the past the "slip up" would have been treated in a more light-hearted way.

He told TalkSport: "You go back 25, 30, 40 years and there has always been a bit of humour about the whole thing."

However, more than 400 people have now complained to the BBC about the comment.

"Americans used to call us 'limeys' which doesn't sound very nice, but we used to laugh about it. Everybody has a nickname," Forysth said.

"Damn shame"

Du Beke apologised "unreservedly" for his comment, which he said he made "in jest". Rouass, whose parents are Moroccan, has accepted his apology and said he did not deserve to be sacked.

Forsyth said that should be the end of it: "I'm sure there was nothing vindictive about what he said...the page should be closed on it."

Rouass says they have "moved on"

He admitted he was concerned for the dancing couple: "It's a damn shame and I feel for him and Laila, she's a lovely girl."

And he defended Du Beke personally: "He's a lovely, sensitive guy. OK, he can be a bit mouthy and can say quick things off-the-cuff like I do.

"But when you're like that you can slip up every now and again. You can say something that you don't mean."

The BBC is standing by Du Beke despite calls for him to be sacked.

A statement said: "The BBC does not condone offensive language in the workplace. Anton Du Beke has apologised unreservedly to Laila Rouass who has accepted his apology."

Wonder who decided to leak this as it was away from cameras and really shouldnt have anything to do with the PC fucktards who complained, regardless of how it was said its between those two only and should have been dealt with as such.

If it was said away from the show how have 400 complained?

Because theres always some pillock trying to make a massive issue out of things by going public. Wasnt there a daytime talk show or something which had a similar problem in the green room? :undecided:

How did a bazillion people who hadn't heard the Ross / Brand incident complain? Because they're cunts.

:pow:

My brother is studying at Leeds Met and lived at Kirstall Breweries last year. One of the lads who he shared a flat with in the halls was a pakistani lad, and his mate (also a pakastani) would regularly come over wearing a "Pak1" t-shirt.

I used to play Pac Man. It was a great little game. My mate Alex was half Pakistani...and we used to play against each other on the same Mini Pac Man machine. So I innocently nicknamed him Pac Man...which was fine by him, but not some PC dogooding twat of a teacher who made it into something more than it ever should have been.

Is she from Pakistan?

No, her mother is Indian and her dad is Morrocan (And after finding out about the latter the week before this gaffe Du Beke asked if she was a terrorist)

Wikipedia reckons he was born Anthony Beke, bit of a pretentious name change if true  :dowie:

I kept getting him confused with the Australian dancer on the show, what's his name? He is also quite outspoken with judges.

Apparently the guy in the front is a plastic surgeon ans the 'backing singers' are all general surgeons. You would think that kind of person would know better?

They do. I think that's kinda the point.
