ASHLEY WILL SELL UP IF TOON GO UP

Campbell move placed in doubt

By Martin Hardy, 14/11/2009

NEWCASTLE owner Mike Ashley will put the club back up for sale if they get promoted at the end of the season.

Talks with Barry Moat concerning an £80million buyout broke down two weeks ago at the 11th hour.

But Ashley believes he can double that figure if the Toon, currently top of the Championship, make an immediate return to England's elite.

Ashley, who controversially renamed the ground sportsdirect.com @St James' Park, has failed to sell the club twice before.

But his cost-cutting has streamlined the Geordies.

Boss Chris Hughton will not be given substantial backing in January's transfer window - to help Ashley achieve his ambitions.

Instead, he has been told to look for loan deals and shop within a tight budget.

Yet that puts into doubt Newcastle's move for the clubless Sol Campbell, who is after £40,000 a week in wages.

Hughton admits he wants the former England defender, who lives in the North East, and a deal could be done which is heavily slanted towards image- right bonuses.

However, Ashley will continue to squeeze the club, whose playing wage bill remains at around £36m, until they return to the Premier League.

He has spent around £250m since taking over 2½ years ago and is looking for a bigger return than the £80m offered last month.

It just won't happen. The team would need serious investment just to even compete so I don't see how anyone would buy us for such a ridiculous price and be able to invest enough and appoint a decent enough manager for us to survive.

We can only hope it ends the same way for Ashley - plummeting over the edge of a cliff to his exploding death. Whilst clutching a groundhog. Possibly

Great. Another summer dragged out, no new signings, he doesnt sell, takes us back off the market, we go down with about 2 points, then he tries to bolt again.

The man fails to grasp that people would like to buy a well run football club not one which is run like Pat Sharps fun f***ing house!

O0 dover likes this

Arabs will be falling over themselves to buy NUFC next season if were in the premiership, not at £160 mill tho, but theres still alot of speculation here about investing in the premiership, with a massive fanbase and premier league status we`d be top of the list.

Hopefully sometime next year Mike Ashley will get the biggest fine ever dished out by the OFT & fingers crossed the SFO find enough information to do the cunt for fraud.

I am keeping a eye on the story  below to see how the FA handle dealing with unfit & not a proper person in charge of a football club.

Seems odd to suddenly start applying the fit and proper person test now.

For Ashley? Not atm but if he gets done off the OFT or SFO or both then he has to be fair cop. Also remember the rules have changed since the  days of the someone like Thaskin took over a club.
