the whole 'we dont concede many' theory

doesnt hold weight with me. our defence is useless.

the reason we dont concede is because teams go in front of us 1-0, then the KNOW we're not going to score so they sit back and let us panick around them. You go 1-0, 2-1 up against this newcastle team, and you can relax knowing you have won, no need to tire yourself chasing more goals when we have no fight in us.

so forget this 'we are sorted apart from we're not scoring', because our defence concedes when it matters.

imho tbh etc

What's it now, 5 clean sheets in 8. In that time we've scored 7 and conceded 4.

I wouldn't agree with you given the stats, but it's the fact we are playing shite teams and looking even worse.

everytime the other team gets a corner or advanced throw in i just assume they will score. but to an outsider, the clean sheet stat looks quite impressive

Or to the manager.

If anyone thinks that Bramble or Moore are good enough to be in our first team in the medium/long term, they are mental.

Our defence is abysmal. We rely on having good 'keepers to carry the appalling defence.

Please add Carr, Babyaro and Ramage to that as well.

Our defence is pretty shit, but they have looked much better since Pearson came in.

Boro 0-1

Pompey 3-0

Charlton 0-0

Palermo 1-0

Sheff Utd 0-1

Watford 2-2

Man City 0-0

Thats 3 clean sheets out of 6 and only a last minute winner at Boro stopped it being 6. Certain improvement, thought Taylor had a good game on Saturday aswell, best all season.

If only we had a top class defence like Liverpool or Spurs, or signed Woodgate & Huth instead of Middlesbrough, this season would have been so different :PMT:

imho tbh etc

PS It's your opinion that's the theory, not the fact that our goals conceded stats, season after season, are mid-table at worst.

Top class defence like Spurs or Liverpool.

Liverpool have let in more than us, and King & Dawson made Boumsong & Bramble look like world-beaters at Reading yesterday.

Imho, Palermo is the only decent team Newcastle has kept a clean sheet against. Keeping a CS or conceding just one against the likes of Boro, ManCity, Charlton, Sheffield, etc... is not a great achievement by any means.

So the defence isn't sorted, imho. And I fear Arsenal will see to it being exposed.

Exactly.  If we hold Arsenal to one goal, then we can talk about progress.  At the moment, new defenders are still top priority.

We held Arsenal to 1 (or possibly 2) under Bobby but got battered and only poor finishing prevented a rout.

Particulary in the Palmero game the Defence looked like it was solid and wouldn't concede. It should be that which determines progress, not simply a scoreline

I think that had a lot to do with the choice of back four though, no Carr or Babayaro we played four CB's  and we were miles better.

Man City could have had a few on Saturday, we kept a clean sheet but were lucky to do so.

Our defence and attack have serious problems and nobody should be in doubt of that.

We have potential in Ramage and Taylor but thats all, we cannot rely on potential.
