Why has my house not blown up?

My mother, in her wisdom, was cleaning the kitchen today and managed to turn one of the hobs on the oven on.  It's been left on for 4 hours, and I have seen too many films to know that my house-a-splode when said hob is left on for too long.  Whats the craic?

There's only a small window between the minimum and maximum amount of gas in the air in which an explosion will happen. Presumably whilst the gas level was within those percentages there wasn't a spark.
