Photoshop Cartoon Style Help

I am looking at doing this for some design work i have in mind but haven't a clue how to go about doing it? Any tips or is it simply just picking up large blocks of colour and shape on photoshop.

 

I will be extremely grateful for any help.

It's all done on top of photographs. Draw the outlines on top of the photo on a new layer, colour in it in on a new layer etc etc. Basically tracing it.

get a  copy of Illustrator - it'll be far easier than doing it in Photoshop.

 

failing that get a tablet which means it'll be easier to draw than using a mouse.

Aye, the gf is a Graphic Design major who uses a Wacom Tablet and Illustrator.

Using Corel draw it is going quite well. Need to get the finished thing on the laser cutter for tomorrow, lots to be done.

I know this is a bit rich coming from me, but do you actually do any proper work?
