Got a crazy deal one for £200 1 week + hotel on the strip.

Tripadvisor is your best bet.  I should have researched more.

Few things you ahve to do imo:

1. See a show!  I wanted to see Beatles love but it was shut for the winter.  Went to see KA instead and despite the high ticket price it was worth every penny and the stage was epic was fuck!!!!

2.  Rent a car and have a drive in the sand

3.  Go to the Stratosphere Las Vegas they ahve some really good rides

4. New York New York coaster

Cant remeber but it was right next to The strat tower.  My best advice is get anything on the strip you wiill never be in it.  There is a 24 hour busy that goes from the end of the sheet to the old bit of vegas $5 gets you a 24 hour pass amazing value....i prefered to walk with a can from the 711 :)

I stayed in the Bellagio. I'm pretty sure the more you pay the better your hotel will be. Caesars Palace looked like a good one too. It all depends how much money you want to spend and what your tastes are. I ate mainly in the 'Excalibur' all you can eat buffet. Masses of choice and one of the cheapest. Most of the hotels on the strip have buffet restaurants.

I highly recommend anyone going to Las Vegas is to go to a Gun Range. I went to this one: -

http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com/

It's about a 5 to 10 minute taxi ride from the strip. I fired off 120 rounds of ammo using an Uzi, an M16 and an MP5. Fantastic!

As your going all that way, it's worth going to see the Grand Canyon by helicopter.

The later you go in summer the better - a lot of Yanks are there in June & july but by August the heat and lack of cash cuts numbers significantly and you can get some really good deals - and mid week is always better than weekends

I went to the casinos but obv not the hotels.   Wynn and the Encore are amazing! The pools might be closed but its wont be cold during the day! and there is always things going on so dont worry about off seasons and shit :smitten:

Bird's parents went. Said it was like hell on Earth.

Really? maybe its becasue they are older....but they are so wrong.  I could spend a day just walking up and down the main strip as the buildings themselfs are amazing.  And as with seome places i never even seen the slightest hint of crime.  Apart from the guy with shit weed :)

You'll see plenty of Mexican guys on the strip handing out prostitute advertisement cards all day long to anyone (and I do mean anyone) who walks past.

They were great i think i i got the full set.

They are like Panini stickers - "Got, got, got, NEED!"

Just like Pokemon you "gotta catch them all".

But of course in this case you are referring to STD's.

Quite a few year round.

Last time I went I stayed at the Stardust, which was a dump and has since been knocked down.  But when I go back I'm staying at the Wynn.  Had some really good deals recently online (lastminutedeals.com I think), almost booked a weekend but went somewhere else instead.

My only advice would be to make sure you get one of the hotels on the strip, and avoid the stupidly good all you can eat food deals at the cheap hotels.  It will end in food poisoning.

We'll be going in September so hopefully the weather will still be good then, and plenty happening.

Has anyone ever been to the Palazzo, the Wynn, or the Encore? If so, any good?

good time to go - still hot but not 110F/45C

went the other year...it rocked :) went in oCtober, temperature was perfect..can get mental hot in the summer.

stayed in the [email protected] MGM which is the best hotel I've ever stayed in, each floor only has about 10 rooms on it, we had 2 of them..the whole week I was there, I only saw other people in the lift once!

It is slightly off strip, but the walk was quite energising, thgrough the MGM casino to the main strip.

Its probably easier to say the hotels to avoid

Imperial Palace

Circus Circus

Luxor

Stratosphere

Harrah's

Tropicana

Excalibur

from the rest, take your pick :)

I woul say book the flights early to get a good price, book your rooms late...(check for conferences when yo're staying, this can put the price up)

lots of people stay in two hotels for a few days, to experience them, we're considering it for the next stay.

hotels on the strip

http://www.vegas.com/lounge/map.html

good thread on MSE worth reading for offers etc.

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2174765

THings to do

Car museum thingy at Imperial Palace is quite cool (ignore the fact the hotel is a dump)

catch a show

booze

gamble! (we mostly stuck to slots, came out $2000 up after the week)

eat!

walk.....and walk....and walk.....

New City Centre resort shuold be open now, looks a bit mad.

grand canyon

visit Downtown (not too late at night tho...gets a bit freaky)

shop...spend..buy stuff

check out the Bellagio fountains...they are class...nothing like seeing them from the top of the Paris eiffel tower at dusk.

go up the eiffel tower...

get the monorail from the MGM up (altho I think they've just filed for chapter 11?...still running I believe...get a week pass if yo uintend to use it more than a few times, cab's are cheap tho)

the waxwork thingy at the venetian is a laugh

aviod the aquarium at the Mandalay Bay..$30 and not worth it

DO go to the doplhin thingy at the MIrage...we had a proper chilled out day in sun sitting by a massive pool with dolphins swimming 6ft away, was ace.

New York roller coaster is good, get there early..queues build up.

I dunno, theres tons to do,we didn't get to all of the hotels in a week..still have 5 or so to go visit next time

Fantastic!

Here's a video so you get an idea of what happens: -

http://thegunstorelasvegas.com/video.html?keepThis=true&TB_iframe=true&height=310&width=390

They hang the targets upside down when people use the machine guns as people new to the guns tend to let the gun rise as they fire.

Here's the advice I sent to a friend going to Las Vegas: -

DO: -

Get a taxi from the airport. Buses are fractionally cheaper but a lot more hassle. The airport is only about 5 or 10 minutes from the strip.

Go see the Sirens of Treasure Island - its free and good fun. You need to stand nearer the white ship than the black one for a better view. On every evening about 3 times.

Hotels to definitely have a look around are Caesar's Palace (amazing attention to detail), Venetian (the ceiling in the main entrance), Wynns (so luxurious). I really liked Paris (half naked girls dancers on an evening) and there are great views from up the top of the Eiffel Tower. Did it at night and as it is opposite the Bellagio, got to see the fountains from an amazing height. If you have the time the Stratosphere also offers amazing views - did that during the day.

If you fancy fast food there is a huge food court opposite Wynns - there is also a shopping mall there - Macys, Apple Store, etc.

Take the bus up to the Fremont Experience for the light show which starts around 7 or 7.30pm - its also interesting to see the older/original casinos.

There is a 3D IMAX cinema in Luxor. It shows special 45 minute films (e.g. under the sea, dinosaurs, etc.) rather than Hollywood films.

See the fountains - really nice and always on and always worth stopping to look.

Roller-coaster at New York New York was fast and rough, but worth the queue.

Discount shopping - went to the 'Premier Outlet' at the far end of the strip - about $13 one-way in a taxi.

Don't bother with: -

Seeing 'King Tut' in Luxor.

MGM Grand except to see the lions.

Mirage except to see the tiger in the main entrance. There is a dolphin place at the rear, but if you are short on time - give that a miss too.

Volcano outside the Mirage - if you are passing then fine, but not worth a special trip along.

When I went a few years ago I stayed at The Aladdin which is directly opposite the Belagio and next to Paris, I think it has been renamed to Planet Hollywood now but, was a spot on hotel for about $90 per night, you can share rooms because they all have two Queen sized beds in them so there is no top and tailing required.  Not that we slept very much as it is none stop.

I could go on for hours about the stuff we did and what not to miss etc but, all I can say is go if you can - you will enjoy it tremendously!!

I'm just sorting out a trip myself as part of a mini US tour (i'll be 28 when I go and i've only ever been to the States with work, so it's about time i ventured around). I'm having some issues trying to sort out how to get from Washington to Las Vegas without having to change flights, which means it'll take longer than UK to New York which is annoying.

As for hotels, my old boss has booked us a suite in the Wynn Hotel which I'm told is the best one, although i'm guessing it's fucking extortionately priced (i'm not paying so i'm not going to look at the cost to avoid the feelings of massive guilt) http://www.wynnlasvegas.com/

Really people sying the hotel matters are MAD!.  You sleep there thats it!.  Just use other pools etc...Thats unless you are going to be spending all your time in there

Agree to an extent but if I was going back I'd choose a hotel that was on or very near the main part of the Strip. Anywhere between Wynn's and Excalibur. It's a bit of a hike in Las Vegas heat to walk from the Stratosphere to e.g. Caesar's Palace.
