Since when should we only pay for things that are essential to people's lives?  ??? Are you suggesting cutting arts and film/music funding too?

Since when was it the governments responsibility to keep people entertained? To answer your question, perhaps, the main focus in regards to arts funding should be what is profitable. It depends entirely on what the project is.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you don't create much?

Instead of trying to be insult me personally maybe just accept that others have a different view of what the role of the government should be.

I do find it weird to judge the arts, out of everything, on what's profitable. Fair enough things like trains and energy companies, but culture is fundamentally different. If the market dictates that we'll just have endless Britain's Got Talent.

Agreed. One of the most atrocious ideas i've read on here.

Jack and Jill was a great success at what it set out to do, unfortunately that wasn't to make a good film.  This is a bit long, but it goes well into how bad it can get when profit and connections are the main driving force of a film.

^That's mostly about the actual film, though part 2 goes into more about why it was made the way it was

I don't think i'm being understood, I was specifically talking about government involvement, not sure where anyone got the idea I was talking about the entire music or film industry.

You bastard. :( You've just pushed this thread over the limit to 1000 pages. My greatest ever creation on this forum will now be euthanised by BlueStar.
