At a fighting tournament taking place in conjunction with the Tokyo Game Show, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada announced Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for arcades (though presumably PS3 and 360 versions will follow later). Although we don't have any details on the game just yet, we do have a first trailer, and we'll be sure to update you with more details soon!

what are your console plans for Tag 2?

As we announced, it will see an arcade release first. That's where most of our efforts are focused on at the moment. But that being said, we do want to provide a chance for all of our fans abroad to be able to enjoy the game. That's about all I can say at this point.

Consoles confirmed

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is coming to both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in "Holiday 2012", publisher Namco Bandai has announced.

The game had originally been confirmed for a PlayStation 3 release, but now we know 360 patrons can get stuck in too.

The console release will feature various features not found in the arcade original, including reworked online play following direct feedback from fans.

"We have heard the voice of fans directly at various tournaments and through social media." commented project director Katsuhiro Harada.

"As Tekken is the top-selling fighting game franchise worldwide we know expectations for the widely anticipated sequel to Tekken Tag Tournament are high, but we are confident we can deliver what you've been asking for and even more."

Namco's announcement confirmed the game for "home consoles", potentially leaving the door open for a Wii U release too.

Get saving lads

Tekken Tag Tournament launches on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this September, publisher Namco Bandai announced at a Las Vegas event today.

The console version will feature a number of extra characters in addition to the 44 featured in the arcade original. No names have yet been announced, though Namco has confirmed the roster will boast over 50 fighters in total.

There'll be a feast of game modes available, including 1-on-1, 2-on-1 and 2-on-2, while a new Fight Lab feature will help beginners learn the basics and advanced players hone their skills using a customisable bot fighter.

Could be tempted. Been playing some of the old Tekkens lately. Forgot how much I liked being Jackie Chan... I mean Law.

Don't think you can do 2v2 online with 4 consoles, has to be 2 local teams, which is kind of a let down. Still day 1 though

Ah well, never mind.  I was properly up for 2v2 as well.  Just have to wait until the technology advances a bit
