Shola knifed in Colorado

November 22nd 2006

Shola Ameobi has had surgery on his long-standing hip injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2006/07 season.

Ameobi, has had the injury for over a year but it has deteriorated in the last couple of months, limiting his mobility (some would say that’s just his style!), although he did make a surprise appearance against Man City a couple of weeks ago.

Ameobi went to the famous Dr Richard Steadman’s clinic in Colorado and was operated upon by Marc Philippon, a leading specialist in hip surgery. Initial reports are that the surgery went well.

Also facing a long time on the sidelines is Australian defender Craig Moore. Moore limped off against Arsenal on Saturday after tearing his hamstring - the same hamstring which ruled him out for 7 months when initially joining Newcastle. Moore is in his final season at Newcastle.

Damien Duff meanwhile will be in London tomorrow to see if he needs knee surgery on damaged cartilage – again an injury picked up against Arsenal.

Actually when I read the thread title I first thought he had been stabbed by some crooks in the USA

Hopefully he'll make a good recovery and it will help improve his game.

Aye, the USA site is a bit over-dramatic with their headline like!

Are you talking about the same Shola that scored a goal every 2 games under Roeder despite having a fucked hip???  He's not brilliant but he's not as bad as some make out. He's a good 4th striker if we can get another good one in.

Err... he got a few goals... woopdee dooooo

His first touch is tragic, his passing is equally as bad. He's not and never going to be a striker......  ever.

And to top it off, he is everything that is wrong with our club.

He was rated as "all the striker we'd need" in the years that Shearer couldnt decide whether to leave or not, FFS decided Shola was the man for us.

no new striker, left with Shola.

WHAT HAS HE DONE FOR US LATELY.... ?

And dont use the "got a bad hip crap" So tired of that excuse.

Scored a lot of the goals to get us 7th in the league and scored most of our goals this season too.

He hee hee so I'm not the only one who doesn't rate Shola at all :)  hip injury or no injury-he's crap!  but when you've got a manager who really thinks he's top rate, god help us!  and lets face it, GR doesn't know the difference between good or bad players-or should I say more pro towards bad players.

All I can say is I doubt very much Shola will be any different after this op than before-his style is laziness to the extreme.

REally? if anything around 1-2million came along for him i'd rip their arm off. Anything below, i'd think about then accept :)

I wish Shola a rapid recovery and all the best in future projects, but also hope he never ever plays for us ever again. His gameplay does my head in. He has been in the best form of his life "whilst carrying" this injury. He's a big pile of shite with the slowest footballing brain i've seen in a long time, who ends up wasting more of our opportunities and fucking up build ups than anything else.

He's not perfect at all, but as 3rd choice striker he's fine. You say it'll be good to sell him, but who could we realistically get that would be happy (to an extent) to play 2nd fiddle to other players in his place? Never, ever hear Shola moan when he's not in the team.

We sign one more and he's 4th choice. I think he's an excellent 4th choice striker.

The next time you cheer on Sholabags you'll have trouble deciding whether to:

a. Cheer on Scunthorpe

b. Cheer on Crewe

Cause he wont be playing here again.....

Fingers crossed anyway.

Anyone who rates him, look at footage and see how he makes an average team look really shite with his inability to control the ball 95% of the time.

"scored goals"  WHAT? how many would a decent player with a great first touch have gotten, at least us into 5th place last season.

I doubt it but the point is Shola SHOULD only be 3rd or 4th choice. How many of those would have gotten the goals to get us up to 7th!?

Who would get the money? Us or the buyer? Cause I'd happily give him away and giving the ones prepared to take him 1 million. We're a better side without him.

We were hardly banging them in for fun with Rossi and Duff up front...
