wouldn't those figures not have us as a selling club ,just less of a buying club as man utd, spurs, arsenal, liverpool all brought in more than us from player sales.

also could someone check those figures as it's difficuilt to understand boro spending near 80million in that timescale.

Arsenal are second to us in terms of selling - I dont see how that model has effected then too much.  CL football every year (with nothing won in a few seasons mind).

Just another stick to poke MA with I guess.  That said, the majority of players (bar Carroll) where in most cases not wanted by the majority of fans.

So we are now living within our means ?

This is not acceptable - the only solution is to blow £50million plus this summer on deportivo la coruna's front line, after lengthy negotiations with that odd club presidente gadgie.

Manchester Uniteds position there is a perfect example of why sorting by "net sold" means nothing.  You can sell all the players in the world for as much cash as you can get for them and if you're spending on bodies coming in, the net amount doesn't mean anything.

Sorting by Purchased Gross is better, imo, for determining ambition and/or selling club status.  Not that 13th is all that great, but that does factor in a relegation year where we only spent 1.5m on players (according to this site) (although interestingly on two players who've come good in Simpson and Williamson).

Yeah, good angle on it.

Also, if you went back pre-2006 I'm sure you would find us higher up the gross spending league.

Also, for a full picture you would surely have to factor in the club's overall bottom line and some sort of analysis of its debt position.

don't even mind debt, providing it's debt we can afford.
