TrackMania 2 closed beta announced

A closed beta for TrackMania 2: Canyon kicks off in July, publisher Ubisoft has announced.

There's no information yet on how you can gain access, but the beta will launch in tandem with the new ManiaPlanet network system.

It's a connected system that offers a map editor, the players' creations explorer, and ranking and match-making systems. TrackMania 2: Canyon will be the first game to use it, but developer Nadeo's forthcoming ShootMania and QuestMania will be incorporated too.

Closed ShootMania and QuestMania betas are also planned in the next few months.

"ManiaPlanet is about putting players at the center of the gaming experience," explained Ubisoft online director Stephanie Perotti.

"With TrackMania, ShootMania and QuestMania, we're offering approachable, fun and first-rate online titles. More importantly, these games are powered by the players and their limitless imaginations and creativity."

TrackMania 2: Canyon is expected to launch on PC later this year.

Search for Trackmania on Steam Gimpy and download the free version called 'Nations forever' absolutely brilliant :)

Unlimited user created levels and the gameplay is insanely addictive, this should be miles better though.

Hands on

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-07-27-trackmania-2-canyon-preview

With its twisting courses and its endlessly satisfying editor, it looks like TrackMania 2 is getting the balance just right, then. This is a game where the player base is expected to come up with a lot of the fun, certainly, but even those who don’t want to turn designer will still be able to try out all the user-generated game types and levels, as well as race against both ghosts and friends in massive online tournaments.

The series has been building towards something like this ever since its first player laid down their first loop-de-loop: building towards a game that’s both focused and expansive, immediately charming and dizzyingly deep.

Must buy this year.  :coolsmiley:
