SEMTEX
As mad as it sounds the best innovation for GTA5 would be to remove that mini-hud in the corner of the screen. It shows everything in the game world which effectively kills the suspense of the game. Not only does it draw a simple path for you to follow when driving between locations but it also handily highlights all of the enemies as red dots so what should be a cautious exercise in working through an area becomes a simple task of spotting the dots and taking them out systematically. If you turn it off in the options on GTA4 it becomes a much better game as you don't instantly know you have cleared out an area allowing you to charge up towards the next dot on the map. It's a much more cautious and edgey experience. I found I also learned more of the map from paying attention to the buildings and landmarks in the game instead of just following the line around the map. In fact the radar is what killed any chance of the online mode being fun as well. Never thought of it that way. The 3rd person shooter missions have allways been piss poor tbh, mainly for the reasons you've stated. It maybe an idea to take the dots off the radar, but I don't see why you'd not have the radar as a GPS, with landmarks shown. It's not like that's unrealistic. Driving around these cities, not knowing where I'm going... I'd turn off the game within half an hour.
O Neill
Actually I agree. They introduced GPS in the cars in GTA4 but it was a bit of a pointless feature really. I see no reason for them not to offer it as a feature of the mobile phone or whatever but it would be nice if it was limited to just being some sort of google maps rip-off instead of showing live information. Aye, can abide by that. Live info is stupid on this kinda game.

Nobody
Love people reacting to this as though it was uncertain. There was always going to be a GTA V, the reaction is from fans like me who are happy that it has been announced and that we'll see a trailer for it shortly, which should give an indication of a release date, that we can then add six months to because of delays. My guess is original release date will be set for October/November next year with the game coming out in April 2013
Spider Jerusalem
Surprised by this being GTA 5 - I was expecting a GTA: Next for this generation and GTA 5 for the next gen. Looks like they are trying to distance this title from the last one.

Chrissy Bee
Surprised by this being GTA 5 - I was expecting a GTA: Next for this generation and GTA 5 for the next gen. Looks like they are trying to distance this title from the last one. They've probably been developing it for nearly 4 years already and everybody's expecting another year. It's a bit different from the case with VC and SA - This is probably about as long as they spent making GTA4.
O Neill
Surprised by this being GTA 5 - I was expecting a GTA: Next for this generation and GTA 5 for the next gen. Looks like they are trying to distance this title from the last one. The last game felt like a continuation of the GTA3 trilogy on a new engine. They added a few things that came with the engine such as being able to move against cover etc but they didn't really innovate over what they had in terms of features. In fact they stripped out a lot of stuff to focus on getting things running on the new engine. This time round they need to look at adding in new content, restoring some of the old ideas and perhaps finding a way to add re-playability once the story is complete. Decky
I wouldn't be surprised if we see this game within the next year. They've probably been working on it for ages, it could well be near completion. Guess we might find out in a few days.

September 2012 I read somewhere, Rockstar normally release games around March/April/May though so that's what I'd put my money on.

Anderson
Looks like a forgone conclusion that it'll be set in some sort of LA, either a real-world recreation or a fictional city based on it (Los Santos).

Hanshithispantz
LA is a great place to set a GTA game tbh, it was the best part of the 3 San Andreas islands by far imo. It has everything you need for a sandbox game, mountains, beach, sky scrapers ect. And most of all it wont be grim as fuck like GTA3 was, too much brown and grey.
