May aswell have it's own thread so I don't have to set foot in that other thread with the rubbish name.

WTF is League of Legends?

Impressive user base too

Riot Games' online strategy title League of Legends has passed the 15 million registered users mark, the developer has announced.

1.4 million players are apparently logging on every 24 hours, with a game starting every 10 seconds on average. Gamers cumulatively spend 3.7 million hours in the game every day.

Not only that, but it seems the competitive scene is in fine shape too, with 1.69 million viewers tuning into the online broadcast of the Season One Championship. Concurrent viewers peaked at over 210,000.

"We are extremely proud and appreciative of the devoted League of Legends community which has grown substantially over the last year and a half," commented Riot CEO Brandon Beck.

"We're committed to continuing to match their dedication with our relentless focus on ongoing enhancements to the player experience with great new features, content, and polish – and we have some very exciting surprises in store just around the corner."

Impressive numbers, but not all is rosy in LoL land. Earlier this month, Riot Games attracted fans' ire by deciding to split its European playerbase into two separate groups, breaking up friendship groups.

Reet now the OP is done I need some help.. stuck in the tutorial

How exactly do you learn the powers? It's telling me to click on the box but it's not doing anything, been stuck on it for a good 10 minutes and it's doing me head in.

Am I missing something?

EDIT: No I wasn't for some reason it just worked even though I clicked on it numerous times.

OT:

Totalbiscuit is awesome. Some of his terraria videos are a great laugh. Apparently he lives in Newcastle as well!

edit: That was in response to the "WTF is League of Legends" video in the op, btw

Class game, I used to play loads of this but haven't played much recently, think I'll get back on it. Takes a while to learn the heros and what to buy etc but its class once you get it.

Finished a game with the AI and it's really good! I just 'jungled' for the whole game which from what I gather from the TB biscuit video is where you go around the little camps and build up gold etc.. whilst your team fights in the lanes.

The lack of maps is a concern like, doesn't it get boring with only 1 to play on? Also the amount of items and configuration is insane! How are you meant to learn all that? Apart from that it feels like I'm onto a winner.

Also post your usernames up so I can add you to my friends :) My username is 'clayus'

My old roommate played the shit out of this game.  Was literally on the computer 8+ hours a day on this game.

Sums up what it´s playing these kind of games once you get the hang of them and start playing with a full party of friends (soon to be Clay)

There is also a different 3v3 map but nah, the game features 71 heroes and hundred of different items to choose from.

Each game plays out differently and there are countless of various hero synergies and strategies to toy around with.

I've played 1300 games on my Hon account (a game similar to LoL)  and I still haven´t got bored of it. No matter how much you´ve played, you are always learning something new.

Just remember that the learning curve for a game like this is massive and the first few games might be frustrating and difficult to understand as you don´t know what every hero does or what items are good to buy against each lineup etc. But once you get the hang of it then it starts getting really awarding. Checking out forums or googling up "Beginner´s guide" is usually a strong move.

I don´t really play LoL that much that much tough I´d be up for a Newcastle-Online game. Rarely logged it but my account name is Ridman, you´d be better off contacting me on steam (Trebsil) or msn ([email protected]).

Ah damn, you guys are all on the Euro West server right?

East-Scandinavian or whatever it is called. A bit daft that they split Europe into two regions, not only can´t you play with people from the US but now you also can´t play with some people from different parts of Europe.

Had my first online game before.

Was co-op against the AI and we won despite me not having a clue  i couldn't have picked a worse character. Some little annoying bellend with a hood who used magic, had the most irritating catchphrases and he was weak as piss!

Sounds like Veigar.

The idea is that you build your character with items that boost your relevant skills. Veigar is an AP (Ability Power) mage, so you're gonna want to get some items that boost your AP, which will make his spells do more damage. Generally, the "recommended" items in the shop point you in the right direction, but it's not always the best choices. You can find some guides at http://leaguecraft.com/ and http://www.mobafire.com/ specific to each character, with a roadmap for the order in which you should skill up your skills, item choices, runes and masteries.

edit: Found a New Player FAQ on mobafire, that might help: http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/new-player-faq-62815

Is HoN worth playing? That's gone 'free to play' too.

If you haven´t played a game like this before then I´d probably start with LoL as Hon is a lot more unforgiving and less noob friendly. But hey it´s free (tough you'll have to pay or have played a certain amount of games to become a verified member where you can play all the game modes, join the verified matchmaking system and choose any hero you want), so you can try both and make your own decision but I'm pretty sure you'll feel more comfortable playing LoL.
