Quick question. Ordering a Mac for my dad.

Which Intel Processor is faster.... 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 or 2.3GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7?

Feel free to delete the thread once it's done.

I'd imagine there's very little difference between them. Is there a cost difference? i7 is generally a high end processor whereas i5 is mid range.

Quick look suggests that you'd only really notice a difference between the two (i.e. i7 would probably perform better) if you used a lot of intensive applications that made use of hyper-threading. According to an article I just read, hyper-threading is disabled on i5 processors (on the Sandy Bridge processors anyway, their newest processor set)... which is a bit strange imo.

Wow i7 is way way faster than i5, its the better architecture and will offer greater performance. The tiny difference in clock speed that the i5 has wont make a huge difference as the i7 is simply a faster bit of kit all round!
